here is what you need to know before coming to this location
they get everything right here and it's worth every penny but do keep in mind this is going to be the price of your barbecue and a higher quality barbecue
their meats deliver and what do they deliver some of the best meats in town and personally I prefer these guys over Franklin's is a born and raised Texan coming from Lubbock Texas The way that they moist the meat is absolutely priceless to me and goes magnificent with their lime barbecue sauce which I am a huge fan of and cannot speak enough great things of
When I first came to Austin the original location on North Lamar across from the Yellow Rose is easily my favorite go-to barbecue and all of town highly recommend them and so glad they have a Cedar Park location and a consistency with the customer service here was top-notch
I had no waiting whatsoever to get it for me
family friendly and cannot say enough about the indoor dining area and the fact that they have their signature barbecue sauce along with their mustard sauce at every table with plenty of napkins at every table is such a plus at this location
felt like home made like home and then family oriented with definitely customer service that went above and beyond to make me feel like home ask me the questions and get me to meet and make sure I left well fed and happy and full and satisfied with lots of pickled onions and pickles to go with my brisket which I'm a huge fan of to go with their sauces
they also have a spicy aioli sauce I am now a huge fan of that's nice and thick almost like a cheddar queso texter but just absolutely to my pallet and also again I am a huge fan of their barbecue lime sauce which is just everything I could ever want on Morris BBQ and worth every penny
so I cannot speak enough good things about their sides their barbecue sauce goes great with their brussel sprouts and their macaroni and cheese you cannot go wrong with their sides here
they have plenty of Pepsi products beers alcohol products to choose from and across the walls tell of all their awards and origin story and how to get the best meats from local ranches so you're eating the best beef in Texas
also men's and women's restrooms were clean and maintain and displaced with spotless in very well-maintained and they do a great job of keeping the trays and the trash and recycling going
also cannot say enough about their new beef sausage of the month and you can definitely order anything to go when in a hurry and I had no waiting period to kept it quick and easy highly recommend this location which delivered and may have even impressed me over the original location which has somewhat limited parking and tricky to get to you on North Lamar or is this one was easy enough to get in and out of here and whitestone boulevard...
Read moreI've heard a lot about Stiles Switch with most of those saying the place was amazing. I finally went to check it out last week for lunch. A few considerations resulted in my average score: Quality of food, Atmosphere, Cost.
Quality of food was good. I had the two meat plate with brisket and sausage. The brisket was good but nothing special. IMO, you can get as good or better elsewhere. There are some nice choices of sausage (I did the jalapeno and cheese). The Cuban sandwich looked amazing. The 'Cadillac' of the menu is the beef rib but I didn't try that this time.
The atmosphere was good. Comfortable seating and an outdoor patio. They seem to really want to capture a casual Austin feel. Their take on it is a bit more formal, however. There is a walk in line and you order at a glass case that feels a little too slick. You pay at the end of that line and then serve yourself a drink and find your seat. Depending on what you order, you either take the plate yourself at checkout or they bring it to your table. The location was only ok for me. It is is a little strip mall sharing walls and parking with other places like a donut shop. It feels much more urban than you would expect for a BBQ joint.
The cost is high. BBQ has really come up in recent years. These guys are riding that wave and charging a premium for their product. Sandwiches are around $15. My plate was $20. The beef rib was listed at $27. For lunch, that is just a high number. Some don't mind paying that. Some definitely will.
Overall, I had a nice lunch. I even took some home as leftovers. Would I eat there again? You bet. Would I choose this place over other BBQ options? Probably not. My impression is that these guys want to be to BBQ what Hopdoddy's is to burgers. Nothing wrong with that as it certainly appeals to many folks that like good food but also want to be seen doing the cool thing at the cool place. For an average person, this is probably more of a special reason to go...
Read moreI'm a HUGE fan of Stiles Switch. I usually visit the Austin location about once a week. When the Austin location was too crowded early Sunday evening, we decided to give the Cedar Park location a try.
Here's the short version -- it's not quite the same, whether in terms of food or service.
Food. I ordered the Frito Pie. While the menu describes it being served with brisket chili, it usually comes with chopped beef. Like some of the other reviews have noted, the servings at this location can be on the skimpy side. I ended up with a huge pile of Fritos with a few pieces of shredded brisket. And honestly, the shredded brisket wasn't the usual Stiles Switch excellence. In fact, the Frito Pie drank up the BBQ sauce I had to ask for. The fries also could've benefitted from being a little crispier and needed a lot more of the seasoning that makes their fries a real treat. The best part of my meal was the chocolate pudding dessert, which was excellent. My dining companion had similar observations about her dinner, noting that her ribs, fries, and brussels sprouts didn't taste quite the same as the original location. Her peach cobbler had a crust more like cake than a cobbler crust, which overwhelmed the few peaches at the bottom of the container. As we were leaving, we also noticed that you didn't smell the smoke and BBQ like you do at the original location.
The service at this location is beyond friendly, just like the original location. However, they have a hard time keeping up with the crowds, especially in the line. The line regularly backed up and any sort of to-go order, especially a large order, brought the line to a virtual standstill. Also, the drink area ran out of ice and we had to find two different members of their team before we managed to get ice for our drinks.
I still love Stiles Switch, but I'm definitely staying with the...
