Jimmy John's — Restaurant in Cedar Rapids

Came and ordered a combo between classes. When I filled up my drink the first time, I realized when taking my first drink that it had a dead bug in it. I showed one worker and asked for another cup, assuming it had just flown in the drink. When I refilled the cup I looked right away and, it had flakes of something black in it again. I explained to the worker that the machine clearly isn’t clean. No one came out to clean it even after someone after me had ordered a drink, so I went and said something again before that person filled up. The manager came out and looked with me, dismissed what I had seen and what I had showed the employee, and said they clean their ice machine once a week and the spouts every night. Obviously not very thoroughly. I’ve worked in food service and a dirty ice machine can make a lot of people sick, I was surprised how lax she was about it. When I worked at Pancheros years ago, they would have sent one of us to clean it immediately before that customer had a chance to leave, no matter how busy it is. I’m not sure if it was out of laziness or just lack of concern for the health of others. In the end she refunded me my drink, but did nothing to actually solve the problem and clean the machine. She said she would “keep an eye on it” which I took as wait for another complaint and maybe still not do anything. They have their own machine in the back so I’m not sure how she could keep an eye on anything unless she just felt one person pointing it out was insufficient, even though I showed the employee twice... If that’s how they address store cleanliness when people are watching, I’d hate to see what they do...

EDITED REVIEW(10 months later): The manager has returned from maternal leave and this store has turned into my favorite JJ location again! Sandwiches are always fresh and the veggies are no longer soggy!

ORIGINAL REVIEW( was 1 star): I’m a fan of Jimmy John’s, I worked at multiple locations and managed one. This location has been serving me soggy cucumbers and tomatoes when I grab a sandwich for lunch. I usually don’t say anything but today I asked the manager to get me fresh tomatoes. He said, “These are from today, what do you want me to do?” I did not feel like arguing so I ate the sandwich without veggies and left! To answer, you should not serve people soggy veggies so drain the juice from the bottom of the pan, don’t use bad tomatoes for sandwiches and try to reason with your customers. I ordered on my Jimmy John’s app. Like I do 3 times a month AT LEAST. My order always comes to my house. Today the App had my food ordered to my old place of business. The delivery driver just dropped it off there. When I called the Jimmy John’s store they told me too bad that it’s my fault and they wouldn’t send me my order to my correct address. They didn’t care at all. I spend hundreds of dollars at this Jimmy John’s a year and now I will no longer be doing that. I’ve already spent 100$ there just in March. Hope the owner is happy to loose my business and the business of my friends and Family.

Drop my food off to someone who ISNT ME and then BLAME ME and tell me tough luck.
