Went to this venue for a wedding. The venue was very clean and very nicely decorated. The area for the actual wedding was very nice and the ceremony was really wonderful. My complaints come chiefly from the reception that followed immediately. My first, and biggest, complaint is that when I checked with the staff about my service dog, I was informed that dogs were not allowed on the property. They said he could be with me for the outdoor part, but not the reception. This is in direct violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act, which is federal law. Because of this I had a panic attack during the reception and had to leave the night early to be with my service dog, who had to wait in the car. Be warned service dog owners, that this business has no respect for you or your disability. My next complaint is in regards to the food. Denver is the home of the cheeseburger and one would expect to be served a decent one at a tap and grill. The build-your-own-burger I got from the buffet (that was swiftly cleaned up after a meager 45-60 minutes) was incredibly bland and the bun was dry. I’ve had better burgers mad from pre-fab patties I’ve bought at Walmart. When I ask a member of the staff if there were pickles, (one of the most standard ingredients for a burger) she told me she didn’t know, but that she would check. After pretending to look around the buffet lines, she left behind the bar and never returned. The fries would have been great, if they had been salted. It was like the entire me yesterday was devoid of flavor. By far the best thing I had to eat there was dessert, and it was a variety of candies brought in by the bride. I can say I gave this restaurant a two star review, but only because I was lucky enough to have a panic attack (because I was not allowed to have my service dog with me) and leave before the night turned into a complete disaster after the bride was berated by the manager, minors were served alcohol, and fights nearly ensued. I cannot recommend this venue to anyone who desires to have matters handled in any kind of professional manner. If you want decent food in the Denver area, you are much better off driving the ten minutes to aurora to get Popeye’s chicken. At least you can bring your service dog and not...
Read moreNot a family/kid friendly establishment. My recent visit to 2 Penguins Bar and Tap House left much to be desired, especially in terms of their treatment of families with children. As a parent looking for a casual dining experience, I was shocked by their lack of consideration. They should put a sign on the door that says – Not kid friendly. And here is why: My neighbor warned me that 6+ years ago her and her boys (who are well behaved and traveled) were treated very poorly here and she refuses to ever step foot in there again. I was giving them the benefit of the doubt because we have been before without kids and it was nice. However; Upon arrival, we attempted to enjoy the patio area that was empty. We were promptly told that kids running around were not allowed. Fine, our children aren’t feral. We demand respect and to act a certain way when in public. But, it was assumed we were going to allow our kids to run amuck outside. In response to a friend’s review, 2 Penguins stated that the area was for "guests", adults and smaller parties to enjoy on “date night”. Last time I checked, weren't we guests too? It felt like families were being treated as second-class citizens, with little regard for their comfort or enjoyment. This is a bar and grill, not Shanahan’s. 2 Penguins also stated they couldn’t accommodate our 20 kids and 10 adults – that’s fabricated, because we had two parents to every kid. This just further proves, kids aren’t welcome. We only have 11 kids on the team and not even all of them were going to join. Ridiculous. If you read back in the reviews others have stated: “we were informed that children were not allowed to use the Jenga blocks, and they were for the adults." Seriously? The overall atmosphere was not welcoming to families with children. The staff's attitude towards us was rude. In conclusion, if you're looking for a place where your children can feel welcome and entertained, I would recommend looking elsewhere. 2 Penguins Bar and Tap House seems more interested in catering to adults looking for a quiet drink than creating a welcoming environment...
Read more**Edited to reflect the person involved was a Manager. Not the owner. I wouldn't know who was who, but I have corrected that mistake.
We attended a wedding at 2 Penguins. Upon arrival, I was impressed by the layout for a restaurant that could host both weddings and daily customers. However, it didn’t take long to be unimpressed. While the burgers were good, the alcohol was not. They only served a particular brand of craft beer and drafts were $9. The staff constantly hovered and grabbed away any glass they deemed finished. Often, when returning from the dance floor, drinks that were not empty were taken causing us to purchase another pricey drink. While the best man gave a speech, they were rudely taking down one of the buffet areas, so we couldn’t hear him well from their noise. They removed the food early enough that some people didn’t eat. They also started mopping while the party was still happening. At first, I thought maybe someone had spilled something, but it didn’t appear to be so. I had the distinct feeling that we were not wanted or at the very least, we were being rushed to be done. After I witnessed the manager of the place yelling terrible obscenities at the BRIDE in front of young children (who does that?!) and her family members (incredibly unprofessional regardless of their reactions) and shutting down the reception at 10:00, I decided I would leave this review to warn others. Evidently, the reason we were kicked out was that someone had brought in a beer from their car-no announcement was made publicly by the manager about the legality of doing that, even though there was a microphone available to do so. The bridal party and guests had driven from Oklahoma, Vermont, and Nebraska for this wedding!! What a terrible ending of a special day for the bride...
