Soooo, today we decided to try a new place that has opened in Centerville. It has been getting very mixed reviews and I was hesitant to try so early, but figured perhaps they would be better around lunch time, knowing they need to get people in and out. The place we tried was the Brunch Pub. I really enjoyed the dĂ©cor and the layout, but for me that is always secondary to the food, so letâs begin. Companion one (ret.) ordered the lemon ricotta French toast. There seemed to be a lot of blueberry sauce and I was hard pressed to see what role the lemon and ricotta played. Companion one felt there was a hint of lemon and the ricotta had already melted. However, the ends of the French toast had a weird taste. At first it was thought that maybe it was some random spice. But whatever it was, it was off putting. Companion two ordered the shashuka. For the non-foodies, its eggs poached in a tomato-based sauce. Companion two thoroughly enjoyed it and the bowl was practically licked clean. Everything was seasoned well, with the ciabatta, goat cheese, avocado, and cilantro providing a flavorful finish. Companion three ordered the farm way, which was basically a breakfast platter of eggs, meat, a side, and toast. Companion three thought, âhow can you mess up a big breakfast.â WellâŠâŠ..something was odd about the meat. Instead of it being like a sausage, the consistency was more like hamburger, although it tasted okay. After that comment, companion one thought that perhaps the French toast was cooked next to the breakfast meat and that is what was providing the odd taste. Companion four ordered the breakfast panini sandwich which consisted of eggs, grilled tomato, avocado, arugula, cheese, and bacon, with a side of fries. At least the fries were good. Will all those toppings, it was strange that the sandwich was seriously lacking in flavor. The avocado was black and it could have benefitted from some sort of sauce or aioli or something to elevate it. Companion five ordered the brunch burger with a side of fries. Again, at least the fries were good. Arugula was a messy veggie to have on the burger and it lacked flavor all around. Companion six ordered the chicken bacon ranch sandwich. There was nothing about that sandwich that said ranch. Companion six even commented, âI donât even know what Iâm eating.â It lacked flavor and it lacked sauce. But the fries were good. (Are you sensing a pattern?) As for me, I decided to go with the avocado toast. This should have been called avocado on a piece of toast. For the whopping price of $16, I received one piece of toast, with slices of avocado (some black), bacon, which was cooked well, crumbled goat cheese, and egg of my choice. It was very hard to eat and there was no dressing or aioli atop the arugula to tie everything together. It was a dry plate of nothin. With each bite I tried to take, in my head it was making me more and more upset. I sooo wanted to enjoy this meal. It was like they were taking the same core ingredients and repurposing it. âLetâs take the avocado and bacon and call it avocado toast. Now letâs take the same ingredients, put it on a sandwich, and call it a panini. Letâs go again, put it on a bun and make it a burger.â Well, thatâs a no for me dawg. I have no plans to return for lunch. It was overpriced for what was received and the flavor was seriously lacking. The only way I might return would be if someone really, really, really wanted to go and try it for dinner. It is not a place I would recommend. So bottom line, if you want to give it a try b/c it sounds new and exciting, just know that you have...
Read moreLong story please read before you go. Also they blocked me on Facebook for putting this same post, and they, are deleting reviews soooâŠ. Hereâs my review⊠Absolutely not! Run while you can. They have a lot of kinks to work out. I will not be going back. To wait 2.5 almost 3 hours. An hour before we were able to order. Ordered food and alcohol together, after 30 mins had to ask for the drinks. One of the members of our group went to the bar and saw that the drinks were just sitting there. Food came out 20 mins later 5 out of 10 got half of their food cold over cooked and not made correctly. We waited another 30 mins for the waitress to come over and ask us what we were missing. We gave them the run down and every thing missing ( second time putting in our order). The waitress came back made an excuse about one ticket being missed. We were on separate checks you missed multiple checks seeing we had 4 separate checks and they were missing multiple things off of multiple checks. They finally brought out the rest of the food all wrong. We called for the manager multiple times got different people until that red head came out (she was the only person that knew something) she was told to take over the other waitress mess which is horrible. She asked us what was right what wasnât we wrote down what both and circled what was right. 2 out our 10 orders were right⊠she took this information to the owner or at least thatâs what they said was the owner. This âownerâ never came out only sent the red head to relay messages of they were going to make us pay for food that we either didnât get, wasnât right and was sent back. At one point we were told if we didnât pay for food we didnât even eat or get the police called on usâŠnot to mention not at our table but at the table in front of us received raw chicken. She was crying and didnât want to add anything. The guy in the brown shirt mostly busting tables who claimed he was a manager (we were told later he was not) told us we need to calm down after you just told us that you were going to call the police on us. It took us getting them to understand that communication and accountability wouldâve made this a better experience. No one talked to us communicated short staff wrong order missing tickets nothing. A lot of excuses were made instead of taking accountability we have all served your excuse were insulting and accountability needs to be learned. (red head was very understanding) . The owner/ manager whoever never came out to talk to us only sending that poor girl to get the brunt of it and she had nothing to do with it. They finally decided to comp the whole table after we showed them that most of the food was still on the table and the only thing fully eaten was fries and the shrimp bruschetta (that we also had to ask for and is a starter and the waiter said we had to specify that it was a starter) because we were super hungry and itâs been 2.5 almost 3 hours. The first waitress asked us to come back when they got their kinks worked out⊠absolutely not. The manager doesnât know how to manage whoever the manager is. The owner doesnât know what they are doing. Shut down create a plan for success and reopen after trained and...
Read moreWent to the Brunch Pub last night for the first time... Lots of potential, great location, gorgeous restaurant, decent menu, need to "sharpen the pencil."
We requested to be seated on the gorgeous patio. The hostess took us out there and let the door smack me in the arm.
We started off with Kung Pao Brussels sprouts, which were cooked to perfection BUT no sign of Kung Pao- and desperately needing salt. Basically just came out like air fried sprouts.
We ordered a Senate salad next to split between us. The server brought it at the same time as our appetizer- We had to ask twice for silverware. The salad was GORGEOUS and anti- oxidant rich. The dressing was delicious - superb in fact, BUT if you charge $13 or $15 for a salad without protein (I forget which) you should cut the apple core out of the apple, and pull the stems and fuzz out of the blueberries...
Next we ordered a caprese burger and a rodeo burger, both 8 oz. burgers and absolutely delicious. We opted to spring for the garlic goat cheese add on for our fries. It was on the bill but not on our plates. If I had to guess there was only about 1/2 of a McDonald's small fry's worth of fries per plate- which was quite ridiculous, considering the $2 upcharge for goat cheese and garlic add on. We ultimately asked to have that removed from our bill since we didn't get it.
I ordered a Kentucky Mule and hubby ordered a smoked old fashioned. His cocktail was delish but maybe only 1/2 a pour in an enormous glass. I was brought a Moscow Mule- not what I ordered (which he ultimately drank- didn't complain), which I decided to get a glass of HOUSE cab instead. The server brought out two bottles and said, "This one is $30 a glass and this one is $15, which one you want?" She didn't say what brands they were, nothing. Truth be told, if I had known the house wine was $15/ glass I wouldn't have ordered it. I don't think the overall prices are commiserate with the caliber of service or the cuisine. I of course picked the $15 glass đł which she forgot to bring out for almost all my meal and I would be surprised if it was 3.5 oz. Classic pour should be 5-6 oz.
After our meal the server didn't ask if we wanted anything else- just sat our check down. Overall a very strange expensive experience. I would say that the spirit of hospitality and generosity is missing- the very fiber of why people go out and splurge. It was date night; we were fine with spending money. It's a lovely location, gorgeous building, flowers, and has a fun menu. Overpriced for a place named Brunch Pub- not great customer service, very very stingy bar pours. We left for a generous night cap at a place that never disappoints, The...
