I and my group (very mixed race bunch, including Korean, Black, Caucasian, and my mixed children). had a VERY negative experience with the lady who worked there today. We were actually eating lunch next door when we encountered her. She came in with a friend and sat not far from us. I guess she was on a break? She sat there openly laughing at & pointing at us for several minutes. We know she worked at Matsu bc my husband saw her earlier outside & she told him that HER restaurant was nice & cool while the one we were eating at was too hot (whatever). We were the only other people in the eatery so there was no way that she & her friend were pointing at anyone else. The mockery was so brazen that my husband (who, as a black man, has learned to ignore certain things) verbally confronted her & gave her “the stare.” She totally stopped after that. The children in our group were not misbehaving, nor were we all doing anything other than eating lunch. I’m glad to have seen this person/employee/owner? display her true nature before I gave this restaurant my business. I understand that people aren’t always at their best, but such unprovoked offensiveness is inexcusable. I’m going to end by saying that I don’t care how good your food is or how good of a “face” you put on for your customers, if you are THAT openly offensive to people who are minding their own business, you do not deserve my money. Poorly done,...
Read moreMy patronage to Matsu had been sparce but I'm really surprised in a really good way when I had to get my sushi fix and settled on Matsu. To be specific (and like so many other reviews), the large cut slices of fish offered here is not seen too often at most Japanese sushi restaurants. The pics speak for themselves; I ordered the Chirashi, Sashimi Deluxe, and Unagi Don (BUT fair warning - I ask for dinner portions). Matsu seemed to have hit it out of the park for the value and flavor. The chirashi entree has at least 3 types of pickles which is a very satisfying accompaniment to the fish on vinegared rice. The Unagi Don was unexpectedly and in a good way dressed with flying fish roe as well as 3 types of pickles similar to the Chirashi. These are the 2 standout dinner entrees in my eyes.
I've tried lunch at Matsu in the past and this may be the reason why I didn't return for a while. It is the dinner portions that really make Matsu stand out on my list of Japanese sushi recommendations. The appetizers offering seem mainstream Americanized Japanese as it's too bad they don't offer small plates like shishamo or ankimo. But the dinner portions for Chirashi, Sashimi Deluxe, and Unagi Don is the main show if you...
Read moreMy son wanted teriyaki chicken for his birthday. So I search up and try to find the best teriyaki chicken and this place had a high volume of high reviews. Well to sum it up it was a terrible experience. The wait staff sat, took orders, and brought food before we even got our drinks. Seriously they charge you by the can for soda. Ridiculous. They never came to ask us if we needed anything. We had to ask for napkins. When they brought the box the box had dirt on it. I mean this is my son's 15th birthday woth his 12 year old sister and I. The shrimp tempura was terrible with no flavor on anything. The chicken wings were good thats where your 1 star comes from. The staff taking orders and serving customers was just a terrible experience. Oh and the teriyaki chicken wasnt good either it was boring the best part was the vegetables. Even our vegetable sushi roll fell all apart and they covered it with shredded iceberg lettuce 🤦🏼♂️. To sum it up Id look for somewhere else to go eat. Terrible terrible experience and food. And tbh Im an easy going guy and love food and all but this was just not no highly rated good food place to waste time...
