Having read the reviews and having met the family thatâs running the place, I feel that my food experience was a âone-offâ. So I will give a neutral rating.
Staff/Service - 5 stars Food - 1 star Place is a dive.
Came in at 11:08 Saturday morning and we were the only customers in but they were very busy. Advanced orders were stacked on most of the dining tables. Found out Marshall was having their Homecoming game and most of the orders were for tailgating customers. They were putting together orders or double checking orders to make sure everything ordered was all there. The staff was super friendly and accommodating even though they were not ready for customers dining in. Had to clear a table to sit us. Should have left then but was really craving barbecue and I knew theyâre closed on Sundays. Ordered the sampler (Brisket, Ribs & Smoked wings w/ mac n cheese & chicken n dumplings) and this is where it went downhill. Look at the photos of the plate, it didnât look appetizing, smoked wings were tough n chewy. The ribs were okay, rub had good flavor just maybe a tad heavy handed on the cinnamon/cocoa. Brisket was tender and was flavorful. My main issue was, aside for the sides, the food was cool, not cold (you know that temp where you take food out of the fridge and heat it up in the microwave but not long enough to get hot?). The steaming smoked wings photo was straight from the microwave. They looked good but imagine how smoked wings taste after being nuked to steaming level, not good :( I have to mention that their chicken n dumplings is great!! Best one Iâve had in all my travels.
Bottom line is that I believe it was a one-off experience and I will come back to give them a try again. Super friendly people and very accommodating, one lady even gave us samples of their dessert. But I will turn around and leave if I donât see any smoke coming from the smokers - not...
Read moreThis was my first time visiting Holy Smoke BBQ this was not a very good experience for me. Having 10 plus years of experience as a server before becoming a business owner in this area. I felt like I was being punked or something. The servers approach was throwing the menu on the table and asking What do you want to drink? ( not a Hello, I am so and so can I get you started with something to drink or something along those lines) I was caught off guard a bit by the rudeness I asked well what products do you have? Coke, but I don't have any coke. Okay. well a water please. I get the water that was placed down pretty hard on the table. Caught me off guard again. When she took my order she lost the attitude a bit so that was nice. Another server brought my food dropped it and was in a rush to move along. I had to ask her for BBQ sauce for the pulled pork, the pepper shaker was empty on the table so I had to ask for pepper. The mac and cheese was dry as can be like it was left in the microwave to long or something. I will say the food was hot at-least. I never once had anyone ask how my food was if I needed anything. I did not even eat half of the food. I had no idea all the sauces that you offered for pulled pork I was never told just over heard another server talking to another table that she joined for lunch. I had to get up to get my check and to cash out while my server just sat behind the cashier stand the entire time I was there pretty much. This was not a good 1st impression. I will not be returning. I normally tip whatever my bill is when I go out to eat alone but today I left nothing. Attitudes need to be adjusted and better services would be helpful. I hope this review finds who needs to know about the terrible service!! More so the service than the dry mac and cheese I could have over-looked that. The service did it for me and that's why I am leaving this...
Read moreThis is the second time we have ordered there and both times it was a disaster. First, the online menu is never correct. Second, we ordered chili with cornbread and extra cornbread when we checkout they say nothing about being out of cornbread and charge us anyway. We realize when we get out to the car thereâs no cornbread so we go back in and they inform us they do not have any AFTER we have already been charged. I donât like chili without cornbread so I wonât eat the chili. Third I ordered fried pickles with southwest ranch dip. We get home and thereâs no dip in with the pickles and we were not informed. I donât like fried pickles without the ranch so those wonât be ate either. I call to talk to the manager to voice my complaint and interestingly enough the manager stepped out for a moment. It is really frustrating that they care so little for their customers being a small business. Itâs also sad because their food is really good but they do not take care of their customers and you cannot trust the menu. I wonât be ordering...
