Today I called to place an order, and since GrubHub was offering a 35% discount, I decided to give it a try. Unfortunately, I completely forgot how fast GrubHub can screw up an order.
After placing the order online, I realized that I didn't need it as fast as the default setting was going to have it delivered, so I called Mother India only to get a person on the line who seemed not to have any idea what I was talking about, (asking my name three times). He then handed the phone to someone whose only response was "Call GrubHub" and he hung up.
Before I could do that, I got the following text: Dave hey friend, since no one local was willing to accept the delivery for your order, during this rush/peak hour for a long-distance delivery, I ended up accepting it. I drove from Ripon to Ceres to come pick up your order. They just handed me order. Omw to you to Modesto. To which I asked "Who is this?" not realizing it was the driver. His next message was "Almost there, five more minutes of driving" Then I got the following message, "Hi, GrubHub here. We're sorry but something went wrong & we had to cancel your Mother India Cuisine order. We've refunded your order & sent an email with additional details."
It seems that an nearby street was closed but three others led right to my house. I know we older folks like to say "this generation as a rule are not problem solvers," mostly because it is true. He couldn't figure out how to go one street over and complete the delivery. My response to GrubHub was: "What went wrong was that your driver couldn't figure out how to navigate a closed street. When your rep called, I let her listen to all the cars and trucks passing by my house. Your driver just blew a $20 tip." I even offered to send pictures of them as they drove by.
I texted back to the driver, "I am out front." Then, "GrubHub said you told them that you couldn't get here, funny, I let them listen to all the cars and trucks going right by my house when they called. I was holding a $20 tip for you when you arrived. You are quite a businessman."
By the way, the "35% discount" was $10 on $73.36, which is NOT 35%.
I will call and replace the order directly and pick it up. Why miss out on good Indian Food because GrubHub can't deliver? GrubHub in the future? You can keep your $5...
Read moreNormally 5 stars - there's usually gentleman at the counter when I pick up - there was a female there this last time. She looked annoyed and I has to tell her my name 5 times.
The thing was there was only one bag of food there waiting to be picked up. It was condescending. I thought it would end there. I paid online so... when I asked for a condiment, she looked at me strange. She asked me 2 more times while reopening my food bag and looking up with just total attitude....then charged me a dollar for it... which I had to pay with my debit card. I've never been charged for it before.
Honestly, Even the food wasn't great. The bread had no stretch to it. Like it just broke apart and in general - I was really disappointed.
If I had experienced this during one of my first few visits - I would have chopped this place up to being like all the rest. Like nothing would stand out as really much better than anywhere else.
I REALLY HOPE THEY START CLEAMING UP THE FRONT OF THE RESTAURANT TOO.... and maybe...
Read moreIt is very average Indian food that doesn't have much going for it. They simply pour in buckets of oil and lots of masala but the technique seems to be very sloppy. There is lots of mixed reviews on this one, and I can see why. For a normal American that does not know the working of Desi food they will see it as appetizing. However I'm a born and bred Desi so I know very well the culinary style and techniques of our dishes and have been eating them since I was born. This is very mediocre food and here is what is the nail in the coffin, the meat is NOT FRESH. In particular the goat and lamb!
Now another deception is the price being cheaper, I was initially kind of pleased to see the lower prices however I noticed that the portions for the food is quite less than other Desi resteraunts in the US.
At the end of the day though if you are craving for Desi food in the area and don't have many options this is at least better than nothing. Overall though I would reccomend to...
