My experience didn't start off too good. Waited for 5 minutes at the counter for someone to take my order, I got there at 1130, and almost walked out but was interested in trying what they had to eat. The overall feel of the place was on par for what you would expect from a simple BBQ joint that sells great BBQ. The smell of delicious smoke hits you as you walk through the door and the decor doesn't overwhelm you. My only issue is the, what seemed like, constant use of the microwave. I would think the food should have been pretty well hot and fresh as I was there right after opening. For the main meal I ordered the 3 meat combo: brisket, pulled pork and sausage. For sides I opted for cole slaw and macaroni & cheese. Brisket - The tenderness was just about perfect. Flavor was really good, not much in the way of seasoning, but it didn't taste like pot roast. Pork - Should have been left off the menu. Dry and chewy with little to no flavor. If I had to guess this was 3 day leftover meat. Sausage - The sausage was really good. Nice snap biting into it, with pleasant flavor. For me sausage is sausage and not much comes from the cook. With that said I would eat it again. Macaroni & Cheese - Could easily be mistaken for canned. Cole Slaw - Was a great sweet vinegar slaw. I would recommend getting it as a side option. For sauces I go the mild and the habanero sauces. Mild was a really good sauce, good balance of flavor. Habanero was a bit of disappointment. Very little heat, but very nice flavor. Overall it would be worth a try, but don't get all...
Read moreThe food was very good. Ordered half pound w 4 buns. Pint of slaw n pint of potato salad. The slaw is vinegar based. 7/10. The potato salad I would say is close to an Amish variety 8/10. The sauces were a little limited for mg tastes. You are only given one individual container per customer. Which, given the 7-10 flavors offered leaves you wondering if there could have been more to it. My wife chose the Dr. Pepper and I had the mild. I'm a fan of sweet but a little spicy and given both of these things beauty when I combined them I was pretty impressed, again, leaving me to wonder if any of the other choices would have satisfied my pallet more. The restaurant was very clean, the restrooms were very clean, the outside seating area was maintained nicely and kept clean as well. There is no wifi at this joint but the ac is running nice n cool on these hot summer days. The drinks are of the self serve fountain type and a hefty size cup is given. All together the above mentioned meal for 2 came out to just shy of $40 which gave us a small sandwich to go home with and just enough slaw and salad to wet the whistle while chowing down on lunch the next day. The customer service was satisfactory. The prices a tad bit higher than i would have thought but, really does seem ya get what ya pay for n they add up on that...
Read moreTwo guys serving were incredibly rude. As I'm standing away from the menu and trying to decide what to order, one of the guys yells "Ya gonna order or what?" Sorry, didn't realize your mostly empty restaurant space was so valuable I couldn't stand in it and think for 2 minutes.
Cut to one of my orders, ask if I can switch out one of my sides, Nope, we don't do that here." ??? You don't let customers choose sides? Are you kidding me? Alright well this better be the best damned BBQ I've ever had.
It was not. I got a Godzilla which was pulled pork, ham, sausage and bacon on a sandwhich. Sausage was weirdly gritty, twice I had to pull a hard bit out of my mouth from it. Bacon was really fatty/rubbery and not pleasent to eat. The pulled pork was good, and the ham was standard.
My side was mashed potatoes which were pretty soggy. Not terrible, not good. Honestly, for the same price do yourself a favor and just go to Black Dog.
On an unrelated note, they also put out a sign bashing at least half of the voting population. Private businesses can do what they want, but you have to question the intelligence and business practices of an owner who is stupid enough to alienate so many...
