Espresso Royale Cafe- GIES College of Business — Restaurant in Champaign

This shop is really, really bad. First, the price. The average breakfast costs $7.50 before tax, while a breakfast at Starbucks in the bookstore costs less than $5. I bought sunrise on english muffins for the first time in this shop, but the maker made bagels for me. The second time I purchased a breakfast, the maker heated a cold ready-made breakfast directly to me without asking my opinion, rather than making me a new one on site. And this cold, ready-made breakfast is reheated for the same price as breakfast made on site. The third time I bought sunrise, the staff changed the cheese for my breakfast to a white cheese without asking me, which was really bad. I really wouldn't come back to this store if I wasn't hungry, and if you haven't tried it yet, I hope you'll consider...

It’s obvious someone opened a business with no passion or care for coffee, they saw a cash grab for a college town. On the website it says whole bean single origin coffee and whole bean blends are available. Went inside, only saw a small selection of blends. When I asked the barista about different bean options available to buy or different roast availability, I was met with looks like I was speaking a different language. The coffee and food was overpriced and subpar. I won’t be returning, nor would I recommend you wasting your money...

Worst coffee. None of the workers know how to use an espresso machine let along maintaining it clean. Since they don't wipe clean the shot basket before each uses, or temper, there always is a grain. I would avoid ordering coffee(from this location anyway). Just get soda.

Edit: Since initial review they made improvements. It is cleaner and shot are much much much better. One thing that hasn't changed though is cleaning shot basket on each uses. I am sure even if they just dry wipe the shot basket it will...
