Wienerschnitzel — Restaurant in Champaign

Update: i did go against my original decision and gave it one final chance, 04/28/2023. Different staff than the couple of weeks before, and they were very friendly and my order was correct. Seems to depend on the day now. Flip of the coin on whether it will be a good or bad experience. The people working this day were very friendly. There was still the issue of they were out of one of the limited time items (this being the seventh time i tried to try one in particular, but they were nice enough to let me know this time that this is happening because they only prepare so much each day and that i would need to come by earlier in the day to be able to try it. While i don't agree with this practice (when it's more than 4 hours before closing and youve already ran out, id argue you severely under prepared), im glad they were nice enough to let me know this and give me the heads up. Night and day difference for this visit from the ones id been experiencing for a while now. This was a good one.

Previous Review: Used to be very friendly staff and a decent place. The last couple of years now, theyve gotten rude and hateful people, constantly out of things on the menu (The last four times we've been through there they've been out of the thing I wanted to order, ranging from limited time items to regular menu items but ALWAYS a new or limited time item. Dont expect to get to try it. Ever. ), closing randomly when they should be open, getting order wrong all the time now, not Honoring deals that are on signs on the doors and windows, charging prices much higher than whats listed on the menu (at least in drive thru). This location, while I did not go indoors, was an exceptional experience.

Having decided last minute to go to this location, the drive through was paved well, the voice on the drive through easy to understand and friendly.

At the drive up window, the smiling face was wearing a clear face shield, and easily heard people from the front or backseat without needing to yell.

Extra napkins - no problem. Extra ketchup - absolutely. Spoon - asked if was a short or long. Items came individually wrapped and no extra charge.

The area was well lit and clean.

The food was good and kept warm during the drive to give a meal to another person. Even the foods that would be messy if purchased elsewhere had been packaged in such a manner that t that did not spill.

The price range is in range or maybe a little lower, if you buy one of the many specials, for going out to eat.

Perhaps I got a day were all the stars aligned and done well, as I haven't been to many drive-ins recently, bit I am planning on suggesting it as a place to go.

A good experience of good customer service and food is a rare combination, with a smile to top it off.

Everything was right...

Well, sometimes you can go back and then are times you can't. Tonight was a mix for sure. . Love me my Der Weinerschnitzel Chilli cheese dog, no onions and a dill pickle slice to top it off. Been my favorite here for more that 53 years and second best is the polish sandwich - which was their special tonight!!

As I have a long drive home and have had stomach issues I opted for the polish and even added fries for the first time in decades possibly.

The fries were fresh and looked like the ones from McDonald's or Steak n Shake BUT tasted far, far better.

Now maybe my age is getting to me as my mouth just can't handle spicy foods and I was caught by surprise that the sandwich really has a "bite" to it. So much so that I was able to just finish the one polish.

Not saying it was bad. No, no. In fact the rye bread was great, love the pickle but the polish was a tad spicy for me...I guess I'm a p@@@@ after all.
