We ordered online and went in to pick up the order. The restaurant decor was nice. The space was clean. The young woman was kind and professional. She didn't realize we paid online already and was ready to ring us up. We had to tell her we paid online already. Hopefully, they are able to see that on their end, she apologized, which is appreciated. They have a tracking feature that lets you know when your food is ready to be picked up. That is a great feature to have for a small business restaurant. I have never seen that at a small business restaurant. I normally only see that feature for mainstream, franchise restaurants. I enjoyed the jollof rice. The puff puff were not fresh. My plantains were burnt. The portion sizes for the prices are what made us leave off stars. The size is significantly small for a $25 dish. The okra sauce was 1/3 cup for $25. There was no meat in the sauce. My husband paid an extra $5 for assorted meat and it was 3 small pieces, one piece was mainly fat. It didn't even come with a cup of white rice to make up for the extra small size. We had to make rice at home. He got another dish, and the meat was basically non-existent. We have been to many West african restaurants (almost all in AZ, other states and many others overseas and in Europe) we have never had portions this small. It would be beneficial to have at least 1 cup of meat, and 1 cup of sauce but 1/3 cup of okra sauce with no meat for $25 is a no no. The only issue was the portion sizes for us. This is a new business so they have room to grow. I will always recommend people to go check out places for yourself and form your...
Read moreWe visited Agege Bite while in Phoenix, excited to try some Nigerian food, but unfortunately, the experience was disappointing. • Meat Pie: It was okay— I didn’t care much for it, but my daughter liked it and ate it all. • Efo Riro: This was just sauce and vegetables. It didn’t resemble or tasted like authentic efo riro. We ordered two plates—one came with two small pieces of goat meat, and the other had just one piece with bone. The family didn’t enjoy it. • Ponmo with Sauce: Lacked seasoning, including basic salt. It had potential but completely missed the mark. • Moi Moi: Clearly overheated in the microwave—it came out dry and burnt. We picked through the middle and left the rest of it there. • White Rice with Ayamase Sauce: The rice was extremely dry, obviously over-microwaved. That's shameful to serve customer something like that. The ayamase portion was small with barely any meat and one boiled egg just placed on top after cooking -like an afterthought. • Gizdodo: This was also overly microwaved but was the only dish that was somewhat manageable.
To make matters worse, even though the restaurant closes at 7 PM, we arrived at 5:58 PM and were told the kitchen closes at 6:15 PM. While I understand the prep time involved with Nigerian cuisine and don’t mind dishes being pre-cooked or refrigerated, there’s a right way to reheat food—and microwaving everything to death is not it.
We ate what we could and left the rest behind—none of us wanted to take the leftovers, which says a lot.
We were truly hoping for a good experience and a taste of home, but sadly, this visit fell far short of...
Read moreI do not leave reviews often, mostly because I'm lazy lol. But this one had to be done, as I have given the place two chances. The first time was like ok I didn't get something significant (shawarma) it's wasn't exceptional but I'll let it go, was my thoughts. The second time I ordered the friend rice and beef. And the food still sucks! First I want to acknowledge that the customer service was good, they listed to our complaints and tried to make adjustments. But please y'all eat in your house, the food is not that good, the potions are incredibly small for the price and it just sucks to go out and spend so much money to end up not eating bcuz you expected to be amazed with the quality of the meal. I don't know if my West African herritage makes me overly critical because I literally have had better food in different restaurants and at home, but this is my experience and I had to share it. I will post the plate I got, and you can judge for yourselves. This whole meal was $25, a miserable piece of meat and the lack of vegetables in the rice was just the icing on top. Just wild! Veggies are not costly Mme!! Anyways I will not go here again, I rather spend 25 bucks in chipotle and eat tow burritos than this! Or drive all the way to pheonix and find better tasting African restaurants which I can testify I have had before. No doubt the place is not that famous even with the limited African spots in phx. If the owner of this place wants to expand, they should do better with the portions. Nigerians are one of the best cooks in west Africa, I know the cooks can do better too....
