Faux Pho, or just really bad food. My wife and I love pho, and we were excited to try out a new place in Gilbert, sadly we were greatly disappointed. First off the food was just old, the "fresh" spring rolls took no more than 20 seconds to arrive from when they were ordered, were bland with wilted veggies screaming that they were likely made several days in advance, and accompanied by a brown sauce so bland that I can't actually say for sure if it was peanut. We though, this is really bad, but no worries the pho will be good, after all it's in the name, my wife ordered the veggie pho and I ordered a vermicelli noodle bowl. For a food that is noted for its freshness everything, and I mean everything, from the bok choy, to the broccoli, to the mint leaves were old, and wilting. The bean sprouts smelled almost rancid, and I made the mistake of trying one and immediately regretted it. The pho was not the rich flavorful broth you would expect, it tasted like basic vegetable stock. Very disappointing. The service was horrible, when we arrived there was a 1:1 table to server ratio, and still it was impossible to find a server, it took over 10 minutes to get our drinks to the table, and even the it was only half the order, I had to remind the server that I had in fact ordered and what fountain drink I had ordered. And the ambiance, classic for a pho place with TVs showing predator specials, polar bears covered in blood tearing seals apart, lions and cheetahs ripping some horned animal into pieces. At first I gave it a pass, but then they had to restart the shows, so someone actively chose this to be what you see while you ate. While at first this grossed my wife out she eventually looked at me and told me that the raw and bloody seal looked more appetizing than her own meal. The only upside of the meal was the thai tea, it was pretty amazing, but couldn't prevent this visit from being a massive...
Read moreWorst service I've had in a long time, we came in ( two of us ), we got sat shorty, but then had been sitting and waiting over 10 minutes for a server to greet us. They were busy helping guest take out orders and helping other tables instead of greeting us but then proceeded to say that the Take out customers came in first, when we obviously came in first. Once the server greeted us, she took our orders and then brought my order within another 10 minutes, however my friends order didn't come for 20 minutes. My food ended up getting cold while waiting for my friend to get her order, because obviously we came to eat together. I then let the server know that I no longer wanted my food anymore because it was no longer hot, the manager then came and asked what was the problem, I then explained to her that my food is cold and I no longer wanted it anymore, her response was that she can take my food away but they would still charge me for it. She proceeded to tell me that they can't control the timing of their foods. Not one apology was given to me during this awful experience, and in fact, the worker and manager doesn't know that my friend is Vietnamese and when they went to the side they said "this boy is being such a hassle, it's one thing after another. They're being so difficult".
The manager didn't even bother to bring out our check and instead sent her youngest employee to explain that we were still be charged. This employee was nice and apologetic but still doesn't excuse the fact that the manager still sent someone else to speak with us instead.
I would definitely NOT recommend this Vietnamese restaurant. There are many other Vietnamese restaurants in the city that is...
Read moreOkay, so let me start by saying I'm not exactly what you'd call a pho expert. In fact, before stumbling upon AZ Pho, I didn't even know how to pronounce "pho" correctly (is it "foe"? "fuh"? Help!).
But let me tell you, folks, AZ Pho has converted me into a pho fanatic faster than you can say "spoonful of savory goodness"! From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with the kind of warmth and hospitality that makes you feel like part of the pho family (if that's not a thing, it should be).
Now, onto the main event: the pho itself. Oh boy, where do I begin? The broth is like a magical elixir that transports you to a state of pure bliss with every slurp. And the noodles? Let's just say they're so fresh and springy, you'll be twirling them around your chopsticks like a pro in no time (or, in my case, like a slightly clumsy amateur who's just happy to be there).
But here's the kicker: even if you've never tried pho before in your life (like yours truly), AZ Pho is the place to do it. Trust me, you haven't lived until you've experienced the joy of savoring a steaming bowl of pho at this delightful establishment.
So, whether you're a seasoned pho veteran or a curious newcomer like me, do yourself a favor and head on over to AZ Pho. Your taste buds will thank you, and you'll walk out feeling like a pho pro – or at least a slightly more cultured version of yourself. Five stars? More like five bowls...
