I was looking for a new South Asian restaurant as the one I usually go to is always busy. I will NOT be returning to this one. I went on a Saturday evening with my husband, two children (ages 11 and 14) and my 93-year old grandmother. I'm Indian and while I don't cook a ton of Indian food at home, my grandma does and I'm very familiar with different types (South Indian, Pakistani, etc.) and the flavors.
Initially we had a good impression of Hyderabad House. The interior seems to have been recently updated and looked clean and bright. We were seated quickly and given water. That's where the good parts ended.
I got the impression that no one working there actually wanted to be there. It took quite a while for them to come and take our orders. The first thing we got was mango lassi--in a bottle. I've never been served a mango lassi in a bottle. It WAS good, but I could buy a bottle on my own elsewhere, I don't need to go to a restaurant for that.
All the food came out slowly and gradually rather than all at once. My grandmother ordered just dal and rice, and somehow they had run out of rice. We kept trying to get their attention to let them know they'd forgotten it and I swear all the men working there avoided us despite us being seated right near the entrance to the kitchen. One finally came over and we told him we still needed that rice. It became apparent they'd run out of it, which makes no sense in a restaurant that serves not only tons of plain rice but also rice dishes like biryani and therefore must use it constantly. One of the employees (manager?) did eventually apologize but it seemed like too little, too late.
My poor grandma waited about 20 minutes for her rice. And sadly the food was not worth the wait. It all looked great--the right textures, colors, etc--but was all either bland or weirdly sweet, like it had too much turmeric in it. My husband and children had lamb and chicken dishes and I had matter paneer. None of them had much flavor. The baby corn manchurian was quite soft rather than with a crispy crust. The only good dishes were vegetarian samosas and naan.
The evening ended when each of made a trip to the restroom and here it got even worse. While the rest of the space had been updated, the restrooms were old, banged up, and dirty. The toilet paper holder between two of the stalls in the women's bathroom was broken, leaving a big space that allowed you to see from one stall to the other. My husband said the men's was equally dilapidated.
Based on this experience, I see no reason to ever go back to...
Read moreI recently visited Hyderabad House with my family for their lunch buffet, and unfortunately, our experience left much to be desired.
Greetings: The staff did not greet us or offer even a simple smile. Their attitude seemed unwelcoming, making us feel like uninvited guests rather than valued customers. However, they did provide a clean table and water bottles.
Food: While the buffet had a decent selection of items, we encountered a few issues. Some of the food items were stale and soggy, which was disappointing. Particularly, the chicken biryani had a bad smell right at the buffet table, indicating that it was spoiled. Thankfully, I noticed this and warned my family members before they unknowingly fed it to the children.
Response to complaints: After receiving complaints from other customers, the staff changed the biryani. However, due to concerns about its freshness, I chose not to eat it.
Plates: The plates provided for guests had chipped corners, which raised safety concerns. It was alarming to see these damaged plates being used to serve food, posing a potential hazard to both children and adults.
Vegetarian options and desserts: On a positive note, the vegetarian options were satisfactory, and the desserts were enjoyable.
Conclusion: If you are willing to overlook issues such as lack of respect from staff, occasional spoiled food, and ceramic plate chips in your food, you may consider visiting this place and taking your chances with the buffet.
If improvements are made in these areas, it could significantly enhance the overall dining experience at this restaurant.
I may not return to this restaurant...
Read moreWe went in for their brunch buffet on a Saturday afternoon. Their appetizer spread is AMAZING! Loved the spicy Pao bhaji, tandoori chicken, chicken Kabab, chicken Manchurian/fry (although this was a tad bit too salty), and their Indian style Macaroni. All of these were top notch and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Their corn soup also deserves a honorary mention because it was delicious!
The main course was disappointing though. In the non veg section they had chicken tikka masala, goat curry, chicken chettinad, and chicken biryani. In the vegetarian section they had curd rice, daal, veg pulao, Eggplant curry, crunchy corn, and 2 more vegetable curries. As you can see their spread is quite big, with lots of variety. And the food LOOKS great too, the issue however is the taste. None of the curries were up to the mark. The appetizers had undoubtedly increased expectations. Their chicken tikka masala was extremely sweet, almost like it was cooked in tomato soup.
Their desserts shine. They had a delicious coconut panacotta that I would come back for. Along with that they had laddoos, sweet pongal, jelly, yummy cake, and sev barfi.
4 stars because the food was cold and the explanation offered by their staff was that they started the buffet in the morning so the food gets cold by lunchtime. That makes no Sense whatsoever. Regardless, apart from the main course, it was a...
