This is most definitely a place (as they advertise) where you can create your own plate! As long as you’re looking to keep it as Jamaican as possible. The spices, and there are many of them, make this cuisine very, very unique. And Ocean Blue Caribbean Restaurant & Bar shows its patrons how its done with its incredible array of offerings. They offer a cozy little oasis of the Caribbean in their snug, comfortable and very island vibe environment. From tiki style beach bar to the seaside café style tables to the aromas of Jamaican cookery wafting fragrantly in the air. The hospitality too is very island, enticing and modest and leisurely. Once sitting down for a good meal, we were fascinated by the immensity of the menu options making it very complicated to decide on what to get. It all looks so good – especially if you’re a Jamaican Cuisine fan such as I. But we did end up making our selections. I for obvious reasons ordered a traditional beer, Red Stripe Lager and my wife not being a beer fan settled for a Barefoot Chardonnay. For appetizers we settled on something my Wife and I could agree on, their Jerk Chicken Wings… and I must say, their Jerk seasoning is short of extraordinary. Our mains consisted of my wife’s Coconut Curry Scallop & Shrimp (scrumptious and terrific) with White Steamed Rice and sweet and tender plantains. I ordered a very traditional Ackee & Saltfish meal that was perfectly rendered, with terrific Rice and Beans and fried plantains as well. To put it mildly, this is Jamaican at its utmost. If you like Jamaican food, Caribbean cuisine in general, and enjoy what we call in the U.S. exotic – this is the place for you. We’ll be back, and we thoroughly recommend you make a pit stop here, we will. There’s still to much on that menu that needs our attention. Kudos to management,...
Read moreMy family and I were visiting the Phoenix area for the weekend and we wanted Jamaican food. A search online lead to Ocean Blue but it was closing in an hour. We rushed there anyways and ordered jerk chicken and curry goat combo for take out. However serval of the sides were sold out and we totally understood since it was almost closing time. No worries - we were happy to get different sides. Then, the chef brought our food and said in the kindest tone and apologized that he ran out of sides. My husband reiterated that it was totally fine because we came too late. The chef thanked us for our understanding and said he had already prepared two full orders of jerk chicken and curry goat for us instead of the one combo plate! He also added in a curry chicken we didn’t order! OMG what an amazing and generous host! We felt like he treated us like family who had come to his home for a meal. That wasn’t it, when we ate our food back at the hotel, we were blown away by how good it was. Totally reminded us of the food we had when we vacationed in Jamaica. The food was so good that my husband begged me freeze the leftover jerk chicken to take it back to CA the next day. Lol Thank you Chef for being such a gracious host and you have a fantastic talent for cooking delicious food! We will definitely visit again when we...
Read moreJust finished our first experience here. We've been searching for authentic tasting Jamaican food since our visit to Ocho Rios over 10 years ago. We finally found it! Now, you need to know, I'm a royal whimp when it comes to spicy. In Jamaica I was impressed with how much flavor and "kick" the jerk had without being so hot I couldn't enjoy it. Every place we've been seems to think jerk is supposed to be burn your tongue off. Not here, lots of great flavor! I did have to cool it down a little. Fortunately the festival is incredibly authentic tasting and did a great job. My biggest surprise was the mixed vegetables that came "with" the meal. I would love to go back and get a double side of those with their rice and beans and some chicken. That is one of the meals we got I would be happy with more veggies and less chicken. Not because chicken (we got the boneless) wasn't amazing but more because veggies were cooked so perfectly and had such a wonderful flavor. We also had their awesome chicken salad and some plantains, super good and sharable size. With how great it all was I can't wait to go back and try the sweet potato pie. Oh ya, you have to order the mango pineapple ginger drink (non alcoholic) awesome how it has just a bit of kick and a...
