I just want to say how disgusted I am with the staff of this establishment after an incident tonight. My girlfriend and I have never before visited this place and will likely never do so now. Our original intention had been to order food for delivery, but when I called I was told that they stopped delivering at 10 pm. No other information was given aside from that. Mind you, I had visited the website beforehand and do not recall any mention of delivery ending at a certain time. However we decided to drive down to dine in. The website stated that the kitchen was open till 1am and by the time we got there, it was just after 12. When we walked in there was no hostess or anyone at the front to greet people. Again, being first timers there, we stood and waited for a few moments till a lady greeted us and asked if she could help us. I asked if they were still serving food, and she said no, that the kitchen closed at 11. I had forgotten that it was Sunday. Though I was annoyed at the situation, it was all an understandable misunderstanding on my behalf and I do not fault the staff for my confusion. My grievance is in the behavior of the staff at the bar when we walked in. See, my girlfriend is pre-op transgender, and was dressed in a rather cute skirt and top. On walking in, the staff as well as a crowded table of people, of which a few seemed to be staff members openly gawked and gave my girlfriend very dirty looks and started to very obviously whisper between themselves. Their lack of control and blatantly rude gestures was extremely emotionally damaging to her. It would have been to anyone on the receiving end of such behavior. Imagine how a visually impaired person would have felt and reacted. To say the least I feel that some serious effort needs to be made in the training and education of the staff there. Being a service industry as such should expect business from people of all walks of life whom all deserve all the same respect. I am extremely shocked, very disappointed and more than a little angry. We will tell our friends, both within the LGBT community and the rest, of...
Read moreI have been eating at Kicken Chicken for almost a decade now. When working in the food and beverage industries the last thing you want to do after a long shift is cook yourself food sometimes. With that being said I recently relocated to west Ashley area and have ordered takeout 3 times thus far from this location. Each time I have been disappointed and thought maybe it would get better and just a hiccup in quality. I ordered the buffalo chicken wrap and it was cold to the touch. Not to mention the chicken inside was almost not edible and seemed as if it was skimmed with meat. It was more so breeding then meat. The Bobby fries that I had seemed as if they had been sitting in the window for some time before packaging. They were also cold and I could almost pick the whole item up in one piece. Fry’s were barely cooked and were still stiff as if the core was still frozen and served as such. Most recently I ordered the buffalo chicken sandwich which is my all time favorite and go to. The sandwich was good and seemed fresh. After the last mentioned incident with the Bobby fires I figured I would get regular fries in hopes that they would be thoroughly cooked. They were not and the same issue persisted. Now I will say the portion of fries was great and they completely filled the empty space with fries. But unfortunately they weren’t cooked enough and not edible. Surely these things are minor and I’m not the one to leave reviews. But such simple mistakes should not be taking place on fried food options as these things are SO basic in a restaurant. Management needs to do better at checking food quality and efficiency on to go orders that are leaving the kitchen. I gave it my 3 time experience and was let down each time. I will no longer be waisting my money and will...
Read moreChicken, kicking. Emma, also kicking. Waffles, terrifyingly mid.
Have been to a couple other Kickin Chicken locations and this one does hold up to some extent. Especially in their service. We were promptly greeted, politely sat and our server, Emma was taking our drink order in a matter of minutes. She was highly attentive for our entire experience with prompt service, refills and funny remarks. She said she's new but feels like a veteran of the industry already. Our experience with service was, however, overshadowed by our experience with the food. I cannot stress this enough: if you come here with some buddies to drink and watch a game, or with family for some good tenders and relaxation then this is THE spot. But if you want to go on a first date, second date, or are looking at some of the more unique items to try then be cautious. The appetizers are exquisite, they excel at bar food and finger foods. Yet the entrees can leave something to be desired. My wife ordered their chicken and waffles and I ordered the same, as well as a wrap. The waffles were terribly gritty, overly sweet and felt like I was crunching my way through a sweet candy more so than a waffle. Paired with the chicken it was a stark contrast. The chicken was juicy, tender and delicious. The bacon however is what sold the plate as being nothing better than okay at best. It was a plopped heap of burnt, greasy pork strips. I know bacon is going to be greasy but this felt like I was taking a shower in the stuff. Luckily our large appetizers made up for our lack of fulfillment. The wrap was, good, really carried by the chicken and how amazing it was. All in all, came for good food, stayed for an even better waitress and decent enough food. 4/5. Hopefully they start making the waffles fresh...
