Bonita's Cantina Saint Thomas, VI — Restaurant in Charlotte Amalie West

I had been excited to try this place for a while now. Walked in and the place was completely empty. The bartender/server walked out of the back after a minute or two of waiting and we immediately greeted her with a "good afternoon" and a smile. No response... She just looked at us with a blank expression on her face. She grabbed some menus and walked over to us with them. Thinking that she hadn't heard us, we greeted her again politely and she just dropped the menus on the table without saying a word. Before we could even ask her any questions about the menu or drinks she abruptly turned around and walked back to the bar and sat down and started watching tv instead. Pretty infuriating if you ask me. I don't know if it was because of our skin color (we are white but residents of the island) or if she just hated her job, but it gave us a pretty good idea of what the rest of our experience would be like so we walked out. They have a staffing shortage right now and were very slow with service. I will say that it was only the owner and one cook and the owner was doing everything! She was doing drinks and helping with food as well as taking orders. The margarita was not very strong but was also only $6. My husband and I dined here today for lunch. We were hoping for something quick and filling. We ordered the carnitas nachos and the chicken tacos. They looked really tasty but they were incredibly salty, almost inedible, and the meat, while thoroughly cooked, lacked in flavor. The only reason I don’t give this place one star is because the service was excellent and I really enjoyed the atmosphere.
