I've been here a couple of times and it's been alright. The last time I patronized this location, it was about 8:15 PM and we chose to come here because Bar One at Phillips Place was standing room only. The dining area was about 50% full when we got there. As soon as we sat down, the server informed us that we had 1 minute (No exaggeration! He literally said one minute) to decide what to eat as there was a last call on food due to a private party starting at 9 PM. He also told us that last call for drinks was in 15 minutes due to the private party. We ordered the first thing that looked appealing and we also ordered a glass of wine. A few minutes after ordering, he comes back and one of the meals was unavailable so we had to order something else. From that point, we waited 30 minutes for the food to arrive. Before the food arrived however, our server did ask if we wanted more wine. We were past the 8:30 'last call' for drinks so this kind of surprised us. We scarfed down our meals as we wanted to be mindful of the time. The server asked if we wanted more wine after we finished eating, which again, surprised us since we needed to be out by 9 for the private event so we declined and got the check. I tipped 25% because I'm not the type of person to punish wait staff by being a bad tipper, but if I'm being honest, I was dissatisfied with the experience. We felt rushed, like we were an inconvenience. What solidified this feeling was the fact that none of the other tables seemed to be on a time crunch. No one else seemed to be hurried out. None of the other tables were in any hurry to wrap up. They were all still hanging out when we left. We left by 9 PM and there didn't appear to be any big party arriving so what we had hoped would have been a relaxing evening, enjoying good food and wine, ended up being a $125 fast-food experience. The whole thing just left a bad taste in my mouth. I'm probably not going to be going back. This review is to make management aware so that they may prevent this type of scenario from happening in the future so other patrons don't leave feeling like they...
Read moreMy wife and sister recently visited this restaurant for what was supposed to be a relaxing evening out. They were seated and enjoying a glass of wine along with an appetizer when their experience took an unfortunate turn.
Their first server was wonderful—attentive, kind, and professional. However, after this initial server left, a different staff member took over and the tone of the evening changed drastically. Despite the fact that they were prepared to order dinner, this new server approached the table and said, in no uncertain terms, that they had been there too long and needed to leave. She asked, “Did no one tell you about our policy on how long you can sit at a table?”—as if they were loitering rather than continuing to order and engage as patrons.
To be clear, they were not lingering without purchasing. They were mid-meal, ready to order entrees, and doing what anyone at a restaurant does—enjoying the atmosphere and service. To be told that their time was up, without any advance notice or grace, was not only embarrassing but deeply disrespectful.
If a restaurant has a time limit policy for tables, that should be communicated up front and handled with tact. Rushing guests out, especially those still ordering, reflects poorly on the establishment’s hospitality standards.
What started as a lovely evening turned into a disappointing one, and sadly, this experience has overshadowed what could have been a glowing review. I hope management will consider how such situations are handled in the future—because customers who feel valued are far more...
Read moreUPDATE: I truly appreciate the management taking this seriously, and taking the time to check in with their staff and to reply to my comments. It may very well be that our server did not realize how she came across a couple of times, and that we simply took things the wrong way. Based on the fact that she has had so many positive reviews from other customers, perhaps it was a misunderstanding. In any case, several of us got the same feeling, which is why I posted the review. But I truly do appreciate the follow up, as it means a lot. The wine was great and the menu items I chose were very good. However, it did feel like our server was a bit rude to some of the people at our table (and honestly, the people she was rude to were the black women in our group). When I looked at the other large groups of people there, I don't think we were acting any differently or overly demanding, so I am not sure why the rude treatment happened. I hate making the assumption that it was a racial thing, but since our group was the only one with black people (that I could see, anyway), it sure as heck felt like a racial thing.
The food and wine were 4 stars, but the...
