Had some time to kill and decided to check out Camp North End since I was in the area. I am still very new to the area and hadn't yet heard of HEX, but when I saw it I knew I had to stop in and check it out.
The way the entire building (and most of Camp North End for that matter) is wrapped in vines and obscured by a multitude of different thriving plants really appealed to me. The inside of this place was just as cool, with a minimalistic and somewhat dark industrial aesthetic. Contrary to many specialty coffee shops, HEX had an abundance of indoor and outdoor seating, which I appreciated.
All of the staff members were extremely friendly, and although it was pretty busy, my coffee came out relatively quickly. I was also pleasantly surprised to find a lot of their roasts were extremely fresh, and at the time I was here, all the beans on the shelf were roasted three days prior. I got their seasonal latte iced with whole milk and it was everything I would expect from a specialty roaster. I didn't try any of the pastries, but will definitely be returning in order to do so.
Although this was my first time trying HEX, I immediately knew this would not be my last. If you're looking for amazing beans, delicious coffee/matcha, or a place to just get away for a bit, I would highly recommend stopping by and...
Read moreExtremely disappointed in the service I received while attempting to support this local business. The barista who served me was nonchalant, lacked hospitality and impatient with my questions fit trying a new Latte considering the capacity of the space was light. Upon receiving my drink I expressed that the flavor was not my favorite & I requested to refund my order. The Barista then asked to see my cup, removed my lid, took a full sip and said “it tastes fine”. At this point I was in full shock… he then proceeded to tell me that he would not refund me but I could choose another drink to replace it. While I understand those options; I was both too concerned and disgusted to even compromise. At the point of my decline, the barista became irritable and aggressive in his tone before agreeing to refund my order once I 1.motioned to call my bank and 2.asked for a manager to intervene.
It’s unfortunate because I frequently go to HEX to complete my projects for work. I order the same drink every time I visit but, this one time I felt confident in stepping outside of my box for once… needless to say I will not...
Read moreI love finding new local coffee spots, so I was really excited to try Hex. I ordered a chai latte with one shot of espresso and almond milk. It was DISGUSTING. I’ve had a whole lot of coffee—some amazing and some terrible. This was the worst coffee I’ve ever tasted. It was $8 so I wanted to try to drink it but it had a weird aftertaste that felt tingly on my tongue. I don’t know why. For someone who tries to steer clear of large coffee chains, Dunkin or Starbucks would’ve been better than this place. My sister also came in with me holding boba she got from somewhere earlier. She was looking at the menu so she could order some food, and the woman interrupted another customer during her ordering to tell my sister she couldn’t have an outside drink in there. This is a grab and go coffee shop, not some fancy sit down restaurant. It was SO weird to be rude about an outside drink. It’s completely understandable not allowing outside beverages, but she could’ve been kind about it. So the service wasn’t great and the coffee was terrible. I do not recommend wasting...
