La Victoria Mexican Restaurant — Restaurant in Charlotte

Where to start? Picked up my takeout order and got to my car, realized that I was missing a bag of chips. Went inside and explained, they argued with me til they went through the food bag and then my receipt, only to realize that yes I did pay for extra chips and yes one was missing! I paid over $7 extra for two bags of chips. Each of which was the size of a ziploc sandwich bag. Ok whatever they give me the chips, Everything smelled good so I was still hopeful this wasn’t a bad sign. I was wrong.

I got home only to discover all the salsa was FROZEN solid. Like one solid frozen chunk for each container of salsa! Other than this being annoying, it also tells me their salsa is the opposite of fresh, as its pre made, frozen, and defrosted (or supposed to be) before being served.

We also got 6 tacos; 2 different ‘styles’. One type was la Victoria, the other autentico. I was supposed to have two tacos ‘la victoria’ style tacos with flour tortillas, lettuce, tomato, and sour cream - I paid EXTRA for these tacos. Instead I received 6 of the same exact taco with corn tortillas onions and cilantro. The tacos were for a child who needless to say - wouldn’t eat a taco with onions and cilantro. Additionally, the corn tortillas for the tacos only had one single corn tortilla, making the taco so thin it was soggy and all the meat fell out thus it was impossible to eat. Most places double up on the small corn tortillas for tacos to prevent this problem.

In addition to the problems listed above the food was bland, presentation sub par, portions completely minuscule, and not worth the price at all. There are at least 3 other Mexican restaurants within a 4 miles radius of this one and I’d choose one of the others hand down....

This place is so great! They have a lovely dog-friendly outdoor patio with heaters for the winter and ceiling fans for the summer. Two kinds of complimentary salsa come with fresh chips while you wait for your food, and they’re both good. One was fresh salsa and the other was a bit spicier, with a smoky chipotle flavor.

We ordered two chicken dishes. First was chicken Jalisco (which is just pollo a la crema with veggies). The chicken was perfectly cooked, with a super creamy sauce and came piled high with grilled vegetables.

The second dish was choripollo, and it was also fantastic. Again, the kitchen delivered perfectly moist chicken with a lovely sear, paired with a thick creamy cheese sauce. It was topped with what looked to be an entire gd sausage and it was a thing of beauty. There were at least four ounces of chorizo that had been sliced open and browned on the grill. It was as delicious as it looked.

Side note: I asked for a side of sour cream and they delivered. Sometimes restaurants spoon an extra tablespoon of crema fresca of your plate and call it good, but this is a legit side that actually appeared at the same time as my order. These guys are on point.

Saving the best for last, our server was Alex, and he was the real treasure for this meal. Alex is a ray of extremely competent sunshine. I highly recommend going off-peak so you can have a delightful little...

We had been here several times and loved it. So, we came back. It was busy inside...so we were fine sitting on the patio. Unfortunately, this was not a good idea. We were seated next to a bunch of boxes...looked like the patio was being used as storage. ( which I got over quickly) Our waitress was very sweet. Seemed like she was ready to be a good server....not the case. We had no napkins...asked for those and plates. Nothing. Our apps were delivered..ni plates no napkins. Our food came(we were sharing)...from another person and still no sign of our server. By now our drinks were low. We waited so long for refills my husband called the restaurant from the patio...talk to manager and he FINALLY came out. We told him what was happening...we felt ignored. And he said, Do you need plates? We'd already figured it out and had eaten off the appetizer plates and it was pretty obvious we didn't need them. No apology. No trying to fix anything or say a word about where our waitress disappeared too. Started to think something may have happened to her. So I felt a little bad. She then suddenly appeared with her check.😳 Still no apology. When we went to leave, we had to walk through the restaurant to pay the tab. And saw her and the manager just sitting at a table in the bar. That's the reason for...
