After visiting this place on three occasions—daytime and evening, on both slow and busy days—I gave it an honest chance, hoping that the pattern of bad service and food was just an anomaly. Unfortunately, after my last visit, I have decided I will NEVER return or recommend this restaurant to anyone in my network. Here’s why:
On every occasion, the staff gave off a distinctly uninviting, annoyed, and rude vibe. After ordering at the counter and paying, the energy and attentiveness of the staff made it clear they would rather we weren't there.
The final straw came during a dinner visit with a friend who had a cast on his foot and was using crutches due to recent surgery. Mobility was challenging for him. After waiting at least half an hour for our food, it finally arrived, brought by a young female waitress. We were excited to eat but had finished our beverages. My friend, with his foot elevated on the chair in full view of the server, politely asked if she could bring him a refill. He asked with a smile and in a friendly tone. She refused with the coldest, most irritated look, even glancing at his foot, clearly assessing that he wasn't able to walk across the gravel to the beverage station, which was at least 50 paces away. Despite our long wait and his visible condition, she didn't see the value in providing this simple service.
Having been a server myself, I know the importance of using judgment to uphold the reputation of the establishment, sometimes going 'above and beyond' to accommodate disabled or handicapped patrons. Her refusal was inexcusable.
After she walked away and never returned to check on us, I went to the drink station to get a refill myself. There, I encountered yet another disappointment. One staff member was behind the counter, ostensibly handling drink orders. Despite myself and a family of five waiting in line for over fifteen minutes, the bartender was too busy chatting, giggling, and laughing with a group that had ordered drinks ahead of us. She completely ignored us until the group decided to leave, only then acknowledging our presence to get our drinks.
This consistent lack of service, attentiveness, and basic courtesy has left a lasting negative impression. I cannot, in good conscience, recommend this...
Read moreStopped in for a late lunch with a friend not being all that familiar with their menu asked for a few recommendations and general feedback they recommend MACHO NACHOS as a good size appetiser for two to share it’s enough for 7 people, why suggest the largest appetizer for 2 people to share? My friend brought it home and it looks disgusting bc you can’t take nachos to go so in the trash it goes. My wrap VIVUZELA WRAP I was told was very light and easy on the stomach very refreshing, it was pretty disgusting it’s like they dumped black beans out of a can into wrap mushed it with way too much some flavoured mayo a bit of sautéed onion and a few slices of red pepper I felt like I was eating dog food (refer to pictures below) I went to the front and informed them that the $14 dollar wrap I order was really terrible and if I could try a sandwich my friend got bc I had a bite of it and was decent and they told me I have to pay for it after I just spent over $100 on food and drinks you couldn’t make me a $14 replacement sandwich, really? I have never been to a restaurant where if you didn’t like the food it was either taken off your bill or replaced by something else. Also they have a HIDDEN 15% SERVICE FEE they DO NOT DISCLOSE and ENCOURAGE TIPS Their tip was 30% on terrible service and food, they have not tried to make it right it felt like PROFIT WAS THEIR TOP PRIORITY NOT SERVICE. I will file a dispute on my charges with my credit merchant service I’m not putting up with disrespect service was trash and so was the food. Let them learn the difference between NICE and TRUE CUSTOMER SERVICE there’s a difference! I will never step my foot in this place ever again there’s way better restaurants with better food and better service I take my money where I’m treated well. And for the price of food you could at least offer inside seating especially when it’s almost 90° outside. I have been coming to Oh My Soul with my vegan friends here and there but now I have a good reason to never comeback I don’t understand why people want to eat bad...
Read moreI finally got a chance to visit the restaurant at the urging of others around Charlotte and my daughter.
Upon entering I was overwhelmed, a lot of stimuli for me. It is eclectic and very busy, lots of hand written menus and sayings everywhere. Reminders to be kind🙏🏾.
I found the menu for food and I started reading.
The dessert case was aesthetically pleasing and appetizing ❤️🙏🏾.
I finally settled on a sandwich (Durban something 🤷🏽♀️🤣) and jalapeño cheddar hush puppies. I asked for onions to be added to my sandwich and was met with “we do minimal variations to the food”. The waitress apologized incessantly for the policy. Her explanation for the policy was: brace yourself….. because the kitchen staff is HISPANIC 😮😮😮🫢🫢😱😱😱
I looked at my significant other because he’s fluent in Spanish and we both asked if they could say “con cebolla” (with onions). She repeated the same line “ we don’t do variations to the food, I’m sorry”.
😢😢😢 I was sorry too. I was hungry. Just finished playing pickleball for 3 hours I wanted food. Instantly, I just didn’t want anything. We did buy the chocolate cake and a half off beer👍🏾👍🏾.
I really really DID NOT feel as warm and fuzzy about the reason for not getting onions. In fact it was so racially insensitive they should go apologize to their kitchen staff for verbalizing that 💯
I know why the rule is in place, and again it didn’t FEEL good to me. Onions??? Which is a home town favorite on a sandwich 🤷🏽♀️.
Needless to say I went up the street to Jack Beagles and had a delicious vegan sandwich WITH ONIONS 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾❤️
There are other restaurants in Charlotte with great vegan options. Oh my soul really got to my soul...
