Website advertised itself as a gluten-free bakery. Big banner scrolling across the top saying āCHARLOTTE NC GLUTEN-FREE BAKERY.ā
The only catch is that this is not, in fact, a gluten-free bakery. While the owner seems to know a lot of about cross-contamination, it doesnāt change the fact that he serves gluten-containing products at his establishment so it is NOT a gluten-free bakery.
A bakery that serves both gluten-free and gluten-containing items is⦠a bakery. Not a gluten-free bakery.
You wouldnāt open a ānut-free bakeryā and serve almond croissants, would you?
When I brought this to his attention, he wrote a very long email back to me claiming that it was only the article I read that called it a gluten-free bakery and that he had never called himself a gluten-free bakery.
When I brought to his attention that he had a huge banner scrolling across the top of his page saying āCharlotte NC Gluten Free Bakery,ā he backtracked and said he did it for āSEO purposes.ā
So which is it? Have you never referred to your spot as a gluten-free bakery, or have you referred to it as a gluten-free bakery for SEO purposes? (Which⦠there are sooo many ways to show up on a search engine without outright lying to people, anywayā¦) But my point is⦠those two statements contradict each other.
Either way, he seems to have changed the banner which is literally all I was getting at, so thatās good.
But lying and trying to gaslight someone for questioning a seemingly disingenuous business practice is not the move.
The food is probably fine so Iām not saying donāt go there.
His knowledge on CC would have made me feel safe eating there if it wasnāt for the false advertising. But as it stands Iād rather risk the CC at another regular bakery over supporting someone who would lie for...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreOnly regret is I didnāt order sooner! I had heard about The Accidental Bakery a while ago and slipped my mind to research further. Fast forward to a couple weeks ago when I just really wanted some gluten-free goods without having to make them myself! I placed an order and waited anxiously for today. When I picked up the goods I was greeted by Matt with a big smile and truly felt like Iād won the gluten-free lottery. I ordered the sandwich bread, half dozen bagels, take and bake cinnamon rolls, and the chocolate chip cookies.
Iāve been gluten free and dairy free for over a decade and Iāve never had baked goods this phenomenal. Iād need an entire new review just to share my thoughts on the bagels!
When he says the goal was to make everything suitable for allergy-friendly folks or those without allergies, he wasnāt kidding! Please do yourself a favor and order from The Accidental Baker or at the very least tell your allergy-free and food sensitivity friends. What a treat - thank you Matt and crew for...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI finally ordered from here for the first time about a month ago and I havenāt stopped eating it since. The sourdough bread is unreal!!! I make it as a peanut butter sourdough toast and Iām obsessed! I get sad whenever I get low. Itās legitimately the best gluten free thing Iāve EVER had (and Iāve tried a LOT). So far everything Iāve had is amazing but my favorite (besides the sourdough) has been the chocolate cake with vanilla buttercream. My bf got me a cake from here for my birthday and I was distraught when I finished it. I might have to get myself a random cake a couple times a year š As a bit of advice, order it the week you get it because you have to put in the order and itās usually a couple weeks out. I promise you will love the food and I understand itās not cheap but you can tell he uses the best quality ingredients. The owner is also very nice! I highly recommend...
