Tropical Goodies — Restaurant in Charlotte

After being a frequent customer I will never go back. I placed a order over the phone and upon arriving which is a 20 minute drive I called in a order to make sure I would have my food. Oh no, when I got their there was no more yams. So the gentlemen that took my order over the phone proceeds to tell me....yea we don’t have anymore yams as I’m explaining to him you took my order why wasn’t it prepared. I thought that was the purpose of phone orders? He then asks the cook and he responded with such a rude response. I felt offended after referring family to the restaurant and being a loyalty customer it just baffled me as to why they would sell what was basically sold over the phone and when I made the drive I would I have to wait for them to prepare more yams from scratch again when I was pressed for time. I live for the food but beware don’t place calls over the phone thinking you’ll arrive with food already prepared because they will NOT save the food for you! Again, don’t be surprised if tropical goodies don’t have half the sides they advertise on their menu. I’m not sure of the cook name but he has dreads and short( sorry for the vague description). I've come to the Lasalle location a few times. I was introduced to it by a friend and fell in love with their food. The jerk chicken is always tender. The cabbage has a little spice to it just like I like it. I get the vegetable plate alot because the food is just that good without the meat. Ive tried their coconut cake which is very moist and good. All their food is nice and hot and you do get a pretty nice serving. Customer service is great. Angie is usually fixing the plates. Both her and the cashiers are always so friendly. They always show you your plate before you leave out to ensure you're satisfied with what you've received. This take out only. Many of us will sit in the car, such as myself, and eat sometimes because the food is so good. You don't want to wait sometimes to get home. The food is a little pricey but worth it. My daughter wanted curry chicken roti for her birthday so she called this place to see if they serve this dish. She was told “yes” so we drove 15 miles so I can get her favorite dish for her bday. First off this place is in the hood with people straggling around the parking lot inside is very small with no place to eat. She placed her order then not even 5 mins later the host comes back to say “sorry the cook messed your roti up and it was our last one…” They tried to give us anything for free as a replacement but at that point if the cook can’t prepare a simple roti skin correctly then all the other food probably disgusting. As just like all the other “black businesses” I tried to support they always get arrogant when they mess up like I did something wrong because the cook arrogantly said “well we mess up, it happens!” We are the only race of people that treat each other...
