I'm from Miami so don't mind me if I judge them hard. I'm use to 12 dollar platters of hquarter chicne with rice and beans and pico and complimentary chips and salsa or even Cuban bread. The cuban bread here was quite smaller than normal cuban breads you might get in Miami bread or Florida and disnt have the same flaky crust but had the taste of similar. I was here on my mother's birthday with her and my nephew and we enjoyed ourself. The cuban espresso was right on point in pricing and size but didnt have boldness and energy giving like normal. Trust me I was a freshman in college ordering these on campus at Miami Dade community college and throughout my teens and childhood and know what kind of hard ouban Cuban coffee drives you and the amount of energy. My mother ordered the cafe con leche with oat milk and they charged a mere 75 cent for substitute and we ordered the cuban bread, the el naciona, a cuban sandwich for her and empanadas for my nephew who is four with sugar and tres leches for her bday cake(it wasnt on the house) including tip the bill came out to 72 dollars. It was 60+ for food. My mom tip 20% for our waitress who was nice and my nephew have the plantains a thumps up and the avocado slices but he didn't like the refried beans on my El nacional plate which was 15 dollars. The el nacional plate was decent in variety, the cheese on the plantains and the refried beans was sweet and creamy and good and but overall pricing for such small portion sizes plate of variety but I guess because it is a select place next to the university it's a good way to keep people healthy and sustain the pricing and inventory and expenses and ingredients because it did include chorizo in the eggs. Overall, I would suggest my dish for those trying to curb appetite, her a fulfilling meal and go work out later. The guy next to our table who I guess was hosting that table was kinda rude to mother, she asked him on her birthday that day were the mall was the downtown one because she knew it was close and didnt want to gps it because her gps was slow on the winding busy roads near the college and didn't want to have any accidents in her brand new car getting there and he just keep repeating it's that way which didn't help her and she asked again I know but where exactly and he said it's that way .. I wanted to say something but I've already had problems speaking out of turn during problems like this and dint want trouble on her bday but he was definitely rude and I should've made a complained when she went to the bathroom but overall good experience with our waitress. The tres leches cake was good. There was a lot of college students and friend groups there eating with the older population getting service outside but overall we enjoyed ourselves and the food. I just wouldn't recommend talking to someone who's not your waiter. I don't know if that guy was a college student trying to make it by but he needs to be written up for blatantly being rude, if it was for him I'd give it five stars and also the manager I assumed brought out the tres leches cake so we happy about that. we were the only black people that were a family in that restaurant except for a mixed group of white and black and mixed college students in the corner but that was it which was okay but makes me wonder about marketing in the Charlottesville area or the amount of Floridians in Virginia or Caribbean people, the food has quite a decent size selection of tradtional cuban Miami meals and coffee so expect to see more diversity. I could tell from the atmosphere and a death stare from a customer when I had to cross eye pathway with them watching my nephew the college students in the area are not as nice except for a few like our waitress and...
Read moreMy sister and I arrived on a Tuesday around 12:30. We actually made a special trip here because my son who is a foodie living in Indianapolis read about it. It wasn’t too busy when we arrived but it started filling up soon after. The interior is bigger than it appears from the outside. There are individual tables and seats at the bar. Minimal outside seating is also available but it would be pretty noisy. Inside is an airy dining space with various pictures and other decorations. We were greeted immediately by a very cheerful man and taken to a table. He gave us menus, and the waitress arrived promptly. She was also very amiable. On the menu, they have small plates, breakfast, lunch plates, sandwiches and a couple of items for kids. I ordered the El Cubano with french fries and asked for Ham Croquetas to go. My sister ordered the Lechon Mom’s Platter that included rice and beans and seasoned pulled pork. Overall, it was just ok. Maybe a personal preference, but there was too much bread on the sandwich and not enough pickles. The meat and cheese were good though. My sister said the pork was tender but a bit on the dry side. The Ham Croquetas are a mystery. They are fried and nice and crunchy but the ham and ham flavor are missing. I’m not exactly sure what is stuffed in there. The waitress failed to mention there is a $2.00 up-charge for fries instead of plantain chips. She also left our dirty plates on the table. They were still there when we left. That...
Read moreI can't think of a single negative thing to say about Guajiros. They have it going on, forreal-forreal. Have you seen the new digs on Main Street? It's a total aesthetic daydream! Every inch of the space screams for attention on social media.
The customer service is unmatchable. I see one of the owners almost every time I visit and he is THE BEST! I hear him help newbies navigate the menu over and over and he never loses his enthusiasm. I was that newbie once and he patiently explained the menu, got a feel for my palate and offered recommendations.
The food is delicious, very affordable and the portions are extremely generous. I love that you can get breakfast all day. The sandwiches are to die for. Not just the filling, but the bread is A++! You can't make a visit without getting the highly coveted queso frito. Omg. This is where you discover that fried cheese does not need to breaded or battered, it just needs to a little dip in some chipotle honey aioli. If you haven't had it, you need to go NOW.
I'm also in love with their drinks. I had their version of an Arnold Palmer on my last two visits, which was a combination of their housemade limeade and .... something hibiscus, I think? All I know for sure is that it's extra refreshing. They also have some of the best coffee I've ever tasted. The iced cafe is totally craveable. They have oat milk too, which makes me a happy camper.
10/10 recommend going here and...
