Food is good, but many of the waitstaff are rude bigots. Managers/owners need to control this better, as permitting the bad attitudes encourages customers to act the same and creates a somewhat unpleasant atmosphere. Business seems to have fallen off significantly in recent months as a result.
Reply: The lack of self-reflection in your response (and the sense of moral supremacy displayed by your inability to admit the possibility of a legitimate issue) perfectly demonstrates the attitude i'm talking about.
The bigotry i've seen from the staff (particularly from the bearded male behind the bar, who may be a manager) is the bigotry of the far left that's currently very common among the younger generations. They've been told by media and some government leaders that it's ok to bully "racists", but many of them are simply using appearance to determine who the "racists" are, so they end up harassing people whose appearance they don't like.
The way to combat this is to teach them to stop being so judgmental about appearance and to give people the benefit of the doubt. For example (and taken from personal experiences of this kind of bigotry), someone wearing a red shirt is not necessarily a republican; a white male with short hair is not necessarily in the military; a male sitting by themselves isn't necessarily abusive to women (or there to pick up girls). I think most of them with this attitude problem are probably good people who've allowed themselves to be indoctrinated by hateful social media trends because of a few bad experiences with genuine racists, and it wouldn't actually be that hard to change - and change is necessary because this kind of hate creates a feedback loop which soon spirals out of control. The solution is mostly about working to increase maturity levels.
Also, i'm not interested in discussing this privately because of the potential for misinterpretation (intentional or otherwise) when there are no witnesses. However, I'd welcome another written,...
Read moreThis is a tough one because some things were very good, but others were not. 2.5 stars would be a better rating. The good: We started with a Las Vegas roll and it was excellent. My wife had a cocktail and it also was excellent. My daughter enjoyed her steak and the risotto. I got asparagus instead of fries and that was decent. My burger was nice and hot when served. Wife's fish looked very good. The not so good:. My burger (Tennessee Jed) was very disappointing. Went with medium well and it was full on well done, dry and over cooked. The bun was hard, likely over toasted, maybe stale, and the BBQ sauce looked and tasted more like ketchup. The bacon, well, for the price of the burger I expected a couple pieces of big thick sliced flavorful bacon. Instead I got one small thin slice (see picture, squinting may help) that I could barely taste. And based on the lettuce I was given I'd say they were running low and had started rationing it. My wife and daughter both got mashed potatoes with their meals and they were too salty to eat (and there weren't any salt shakers on the table so it wasn't that). I'm also an avowed salt fiend and even I couldn't eat them. I would say this place has great potential, but that burger needs work, especially for a place that specializes in burgers. We are not usually known to complain while eating as I feel restaurants should be able to get things right the first time through, especially places run by established restauranteurs. We did raise the issue of the salty mashed potatoes to our server in hopes he would tell someone who might do something about it. But we didn't hear anything back... Unfortunately, based on these issues and the 35 minute drive, I doubt we will be back to The...
Read moreGrateful Crow is... okay. This is the type of place where you're paying for the atmosphere and large bar access rather than the food. I will say that I enjoyed my meal here, and was able to try both the burgers and the sushi.
The sushi is essentially the exact same sushi you can get anywhere else at any sushi spot in Michigan, there's really nothing that sets it apart from anywhere else, excepting one roll on their menu that uses apple which is tasty, but again, not mind-blowing sushi.
The burger was good, I opted for the wagyu patty and was happy with the bun, meat, and toppings. The black truffle fries were fairly good as well. The problem is that the burger and fries alone were $25, would have been $18 without the fancy stuff, and there's a place just up the road that makes a definitively better burger and fries for less than half the price, with no almost-too-rich wagyu patty at that.
The cocktails I had were fairly good, though I noticed that a drink I ordered that's one of my favorites had a strange salty character, I didn't think much of it until I tried my other guests' drinks and found they had that same weird taste which leads me to wonder if they're not properly washing their shakers or something? Not totally offputting but weird. I'd probably come back here for a drink and a snack but there's better places in town...
