Great pickleball show! Sorry the ushers were so nasty as we left...
Have to edit my review again..Wow, the ushers and ticket person are super rude and confrontational. After the usher got in my face and i told him to back off we went to leave and the ticket girl shouted a threatening and very strange thing to say to someone that is clearly not happy. She yelled " I hope you have a safe ride home". I asked what she ment and she repeated that she hoped i stayed safe as i left. Just for future reference its best to descascalate after a staff member upsets a customer not have others join in. They didnt yell at anyone else leaving so it was clearly done on purpose.
So our problem started very oddly for a venue like Purple Rose. We had two ushers scream at us for stepping onto the floor after the show was done. Mind you the carpet is a foot from the floor. We just wanted to grab a picture of the beaughtiful venue to share with everyone on social media..It was our first time seeing a show here and we loved it. This is the same thing we do at the Masonic temple, Detroit Opera house or Fox theater. Sorry we wanted to share the gem of a theater and amazing performance with the world. The actors were awesome and the show was written perfectly for the theme. After being so rude they should have just went about their business and not went out of there way to entagonize us.
Now instead of getting 15 5 star reviews from our group and lots of social media praises i get a frustrating ride home and Purple Rose gets this review.
Maybe know one at this facility cares about the fine detail of a entertainment experience. If thats the case I guess its just a sign of the time. For me Im sad for entertainment.
For such a perfect show and beautiful venue im just shocked that it isnt policy to encourage guests to post reviews, post to social media. If I owned Purple Rose the great and exciting performers would pop out after the show for a photo opp or chance to be thanked for the experience by the guests. Thats the charm of a small performance venue. In Las Vegas Prince played at a venue about this size and would chat with guests after the show.
Please let the writers and actors know they did...
Read moreWe loved this theatre. It was very intimate and I don't believe there was a bad seat in there. It only holds 105 people I think so it's pretty small. Seats were very comfortable. The staff was remarkable. Cindy was at the ticket window with a very pretty young woman, I didn't catch her name. We were there Saturday, Aug 4th and did not get tickets before hand. My husband surprised me with a weekend in Chelsea and had tried to get tickets but they we're sold out. We called when the ticket box opened and asked about cancellations. We were told we could come to the ticket box a half hour before a show time and get on a wait list. We did and there were 3 other couples in front of us. When our names were called, they had 2 seats but not together. Because it was our anniversary, my husband didn't want seats apart and we were ready to call it as at least we tried. It was ok and we accepted that. But then Cindy told the other young woman it was our anniversary and together they figured out we could sit together. I was so excited! We sat where we were told but then the people who originally paid for the seats we were sitting in made it to the theatre. The young woman came and let us know and asked if we would mind moving to other seats that were still together. Of course we didn't mind. We were just elated to be there! I'm not exactly sure how they got us together but I think I overheard the usher gave up his seat. How ever they managed it, they did. And the play was awesome. The theatre, the staff and the whole experience was...

Today (9/29/24) was our third visit.
So what makes it a 💎?
Well, it's a doable day trip if your in the tricounty area
I-94 Exit #159
5 minutes north.
Abundant parking abounds. (free) Thought that only existed in Monopoly.
Today's play, which opened on 9/26/24
Was a Jeff Daniels screenplay he wrote from a " up north". Newspaper headline he had read on MLive.Com.
He wrote and directed it, his son Luke was the A. D.
Both Daniels men, were in the house, plus did a 1/2 hour talk back.
Since this was premiere week, they wanted honest open feedback.
Office Christmas Party, Grinch in fight with Rudolph, police called was a hoot.
Casting was excellent. ( 4 actors) Great lighting Superb blocking Nice cadence, tempo, diction.
Some surprises as well.
90 minutes No intermission.
Arrive 10-15 minutes early as no access once the curtain rises.
Matter of fact come 2 hours early. Eat at the Common Grill, walk the downtown, visit the library.
Tickets were a bargain at $43 a seat with a slight $2 fee.
Props to Adam Graham and the Detroit News for promoting this play and the Purple Rose.
As the back story is/was Mr. J. Daniels considered pulling the plug as rebounding post covid was not easy.
Props to the gal's at the Box Office Plus several volunteer ushers.
Place is clean and inviting.
