Bad Habits — Restaurant in Chesapeake

Been going here for years. Love the vibe and staff. But a few recent changes behind the bar are really pulling this place down.

Went Sunday 9/4. Bartender jumped right on it and was friendly. She got my drink quick and order. But being alone I did lots of observing. Bartender was friendly but an absolute mess! She constantly left people hanging for service and left dirty dishes on the bar or would pile them behind the bar. It was a real turnoff to stare at. And if she called me “baby or honey” one more time I’m going to rip my ear drums out. But she was pleasant. I don’t think it was intended to come across as slummy as it sounded.

Had another girl working behind the bar. Must be too young to serve because all she did was clean. Home girl was hustling. But could tell she was frustrated with the bartenders lack of attention to detail.

The cooks in the back were killing it. Everything they put out looked better than the last plate. I really hope the owners take care of them. On that note, it does seem like the food consistency has gotten better.

Another waitress was working with dark hair. Really funny and seemed to be on top of her game too with her tables even though she looked like she just got done cleaning a house. Lol.

Hostess was new and seemed to do a decent job.

The manager is a bright spot. Talked to him for a few. It was really encouraging to see how much he cares about the restaurant and the people working there. Though I did see what looked like a couple of patrons reassuring him at one point after a busy night and slack bartender.

Bottom line….go here. It’s a good spot. But this visit just wasn’t the best. Better...

So here is the problem, not the food but rather the service. Tonight I had good blackened mahi-mahi, unfortunately the waitress/bartender forgot my crab legs add on. She did admit she forgot them and offered to have them cooked for me and I declined as it was a decent mahi steak, however after finishing the mahi, I was still hungry. Not a problem and should be a simple correction; however I sat here feeling like the red headed step child in the corner that was totally oblivious to all staff! As I knew she was busy pulling double duty, I tried to get attention of the other wait staff only for them to ignore me, (I seriously considered standing up and waving my arms). If you come into this place, do not sit in the back left corner booth!! Now to the food, the salad I had was okay, the course chop on the lettuce left huge pieces, other than that it was fine. The broccoli was steamed perfectly and the mahi was a bit under seasoned for me but the cook was good and flaky for the fish. Disappointing birthday date. :( Of all the places I could go for my birthday, I chose Bad Habits to try their crabby patty burger with a crabcake. I was certain it would be good because my previous visit for the crabcakes and wings were so good. Nope. The fries were good & onions were decent, but my burger and my husband’s bbq bacon burger left much to be desired. Burger looked like one big ball that was pink on the inside and tasted like it was put in the pan with no salt or pepper or anything. It tasted like it was made in haste and no love or care was out on it. It was a Wednesday and they did have a game night so it was packed and the cooks were angry. I asked a friend who frequents there and she said they stuck with shrimp & wings because she and her hubby have had bad experiences with their burgers.
