Shiki Sushi & Hibachi — Restaurant in Chesapeake

On 7-23-17 I went to the Shiki Sushi & Hibachi to try it out looking for somewhere new and interesting, since it had the best rating int the area I figured I would try them out. I am rating it a one star for the following reasons. You are paying for high end hibachi for slightly below fast food quality. I ordered the one soft drink, teriyaki chicken, the volcano roll, California roll, and the Alaska roll. This costed about $40.00 with out tip. This is less than competitive than other choices in the area. The are no refills since they only have soft drinks in cans. (They offer Pepsi and coke)The decor was not upscale and there is only one stove where at the bar/register. The business is very small with little room. The teriyaki chicken was bland and has to be the worst fried rice I have ever seen or had. The sushi was ok but I have had better at the Greenbrier pkwy mall in Chesapeake. The staff was ok but nothing close to special. I was say closer to Taco bell or Wendy's. The waitress forgot to bring the soup and salad. when i asked to have it to go they asked if me if I already received it in a way to say i was trying to cheat them out of salad and soup. (LOL) I think the reason they have a 4.7 rating is because they had their staff and friends rate them high which if true is very dishonest. We visited on Friday, May 6th. We arrived at 8:45- google lists the restaurant as open until 9:45 and the sign posted on the window exterior of the restaurant states a 10:30 pm close time.

As soon as we walked in, 4 servers were all sitting in the back booths and chairs, staring at their phones. After we were just standing there awkwardly in the lobby for a minute, in a completely empty restaurant, all the servers stared at us until finally one spoke up and told us to seat ourselves. When a young blonde approached our table, she threw menus down and asked us what we wanted to drink. We asked for waters while we took a moment to look at the menu. When the server returned, we asked for clarification on when the restaurant closed, as it was VERY evident we were unwelcome. The server informed us they closed at 9:15- we decided to leave. We would genuinely hate to inconvenience you all, but the absolute disrespect from your staff was disgusting.

I cannot believe its taken me so long to eat here. Date night with the hubby. We purposely didn't take our phones with us on date night, so unable to take pictures of the amazing sushi. We ate the Spicy Maki Combo, Spicy Girl roll and my favorite was the Romantic Date Roll. OMG!! Mango in sushi!! that was amazing!! Yes that's a lot of sushi for 2 but don't judge, we crushed it.. lol..Presentation on each dish was beautiful, the Romantic Date Roll plate looked like little hearts. I never knew how good mango in sushi would be. I'm still thinking about this roll. I will say our server never introduced herself by name, but I'm thinking that's the norm lately. However she was great and very attentive and food was quick. And to top it off, this meal did not seem expensive for everything what we got. All this was maybe 50 and then tip. No phones, Good conversations and full belly.. What more could you ask for. Will go back...
