Inaka is my new favorite sushi restaurant. It's a wonderful local restaurant with a kind and caring staff. The food is always great and the place is nice and clean.
It's located on Kempsville and Volvo, behind the gas station, and across the street from Harris Teeter. The parking lot is a little small, spots can be difficult during peak times. I recommend parking in the safe by the Smoothie place. Watch out for the spots marked 15 minutes.
Inside is cozy. It seems big at first, but it's still a place you feel comfortable. There is two kinds of soy sauce on the table, regular and low sodium. You always have a napkin, a soy sauce dish, chopsticks, and a small plate.
Their menu has lots of lovely sushi, there is often a specials menu too! There are some noodles, hibachi, and other kitchen dishes if sushi isn't for you.
I really enjoy the sushi, the rice is nice and small and all the rolls have flavors that go together. They're accommodating if you want to swap out something or add a sauce. I've never had a messy roll here, so expect a tight roll that holds up as you eat it. The fish is fresh and tastes great.
My favorite part here is the staff. This is what makes a good restaurant great. They are friendly and lovely to be around. I enjoy chatting when it's slow and I've enjoyed every...
Read moreA quaint little restaurant. It did smell like marijuana when we first entered, likely a vape because it was whiff, then gone. The female server was respectful, pleasant, and attentive. It was about half-full and the food arrived quickly. The smell from the kitchen wafted through the dining room. It was clean, but I did not visit the restroom, so I can't comment on that. The tables were neatly set. We ordered the chicken hibachi (no hibachi table to sit at for a "show", they cook it in the back), which tasted good and was a fair portion for the price. We also ordered the chicken teriyaki, which was a bit rubbery and difficult to cut with a fork turned on it's side. The chicken had zero seasoning on it as the teriyaki sauce was in a small cup on the side. It was not dry, but a little rubbery. The teriyaki sauce tasted great. I would revisit. It felt like a homey mom and...
Read moreUpon arriving we were greeted nicely by the staff. The atmosphere is nice, restaurant is clean, and the staff are friendly. I started my meal with a salmon tataki like I usually do when trying a new sushi restaurant if they have it on the menu and while it wasn't bad, it definitely wasn't what I was expecting (see attached picture and compare to other sushi places I have posted pictures of). They call their rolls different names than standard sushi restaurants so you will need to read through the ingredients before ordering something you are familiar with. The rolls I ordered were fine, and luckily I did know what I was ordering, but nothing stood out to me as extraordinary. The most interesting roll I had was the pink lady, and it was good, but definitely different. Give Inaka a shot, it's not a bad place to eat and hopefully you...
