We went in early on a Thursday evening, and the place was already filling up, with a line for takeout, as well. This boded well. However, the experience was entirely different. I grew up near Little Italy in Cleveland, so for me, an Italian meal is a different thing from this travesty.
You're not getting out of here with dinner for two, for less than forty dollars. The red sauce (the pride of every Italian family) only tasted of pureed tomatoes. I mean no onions, no garlic, no herbs, no peppers, no mushrooms, no celery or carrots? Most cooks at least put in some carrot, celery & onion with a little salt to counter the acidity of the tomatoes. The pasta looked like the cheap, premade dry pasta bought in bulk & heaped on the plates, cooked to mush. We tried the veal, and it was millimeters thin, but heavily breaded, and somehow it was tough. We had ordered the veal casserole, but somehow got just two veal cutlets.
We also tried the chef's salad, which only listed it as a chef's salad. It had a choice of dressings, one of which was a red wine vinegar Italian. However, that was not even able to be tasted when I had ladled on about 5 spoonfuls. They bring you a sizable bowl of the dressing in an open container, and when you order the chicken with it, that comes pre-cut in a small bowl, too. However, this all was not what the main issue was. Reader, the chef's salad comes piled high with shredded mozzarella, over a cup of black olives & several pieces of pepperoni, cut into smaller pieces. I didn't know this until after I pulled away the pile of cheese & had to spend several minutes picking out the olives & pepperoni, as they are not in my diet.
The server & the manager assured me that the olives & pepperoni were detailed in the menu: I double-checked & it was not. But the greatest offense to the matter was that the marinated chicken breast was dry & mealy. And yet, this place was full: virtually every table that I could see had at least one person over the age of 50.
I genuinely mourn for the people of Chesterland for having to suffer for this pathetic excuse for Italian cuisine. No pasta made freshly in house, no properly made sauces, and a chef's salad that is 66% cheese & olives. Avoid this place, as they don't even take card, and they don't like giving refunds. They have an ATM outside the bathrooms that charges a $2.50 surcharge and looks like one of those ATMs that easily gets hacked so someone can take all your money. The lighting is too bright, seating is too cramped, and the noise levels can get oppressive; to the point that if you have sensory issues, I'd recommend avoiding this place. Honestly, the parking lot is so large that they could expand the dining area outward easily to make it more comfortable, but then you'd still have the problem of the terrible food on an overpriced menu without any real information.
For what you pay, what you get is meager. I'd only send my worst enemy here, and even then, I'd feel guilty. The only part of the meal we enjoyed were the rolls. That's about the most basic thing a place can make, and the fact that it wasn't garlic bread is tragedy in itself. Maybe this place is just for uncultured white people who don't know real...
Read moreI recently had lunch at Guido's Pizza Haven and Restaurant. Guido's is on the east side of Chillicothe Road in Chesterland, OH, south of the intersection of Chillicothe Road/state route 306 and Mayfield Road/US 322. There is plenty of free off-street parking at Guido's Pizza Haven and Restaurant.
Guido's Pizza Haven and Restaurant is cash only - no credit cards. The dining room is nicely decorated with high ceilings and large windows along the north wall. The staff is friendly and welcoming. Karen is my server during my visit. This is my first visit to Guido's, Karen is very helpful in answering my questions about menu items. Karen did not hover during my meal but she made sure I had what I needed in a timely manner. The lunch crowd consisted of some folks having a business lunch and others having lunch with a spouse or a friend. Some folks came in for take-away orders.
I started with a cup of Italian Wedding Soup. The soup is loaded with vegetables and had a few mini-sausage meatballs too. YUMMY! I enjoyed an unsweetened ice tea with my meal. Along with the soup, I enjoyed an order of garlic bread with cheese. They butterfly three of their dinner rolls and top with garlic. Cheese is extra cost. The melted cheese adds a nice texture and taste to the garlic bread. My entree is a small sausage, mushroom, green pepper and onion pizza. The pizza sauce is mild with an abundance of cheese topping. The cheese is nice and stringy when you separate the pieces of pizza. The slices are cut into nine rectangular slices. The pizza is served in a rectangular shape versus a pie shape. The pizza tastes good and has plenty of toppings - no skimping with the toppings at Guido's. I like to cut my pizza slice into bite size pieces with a knife and fork. During the cutting process, the toppings tend to slide off the crust.
I sincerely enjoyed the service and the taste of my food at Guido's Pizza Haven and Restaurant. The restaurant and the Men's room are clean. In mid-May, 2022, the staff do not...
Read moreThis was the first time our family visited and we will come back most definitely. From outside to inside the place is clean and tidy. Part of the kitchen , where the pizza magic happens , is right there as you open the door and the artisans greet you. As we sat down we were nearly immediately given waters and dinner rolls. Fluffy inside with that crunchy thin outer layer. Upon first review of the menu , it's completely Italian fare. I thought the menu , while having a very good variety , was a bit limited. However , that's understandable when you see the food portions! My fiance and I both had pizzas. She , a small pepperoni. Me , sausage and pepperoni. Sooo good! I have been searching for a place that serves pizzas with a thicker bottom crust and found here. My daughter-in-law got a small double cheese and she smashed it along with a side salad and two of those rolls mentioned earlier. The son-in-law got the spaghetti with sausage. He's a dainty eater and we knew immediately he was going to need a to go box. HUGE plate of pasta AND two sausage patties ( which are sweet with just a tiny hint of mild in it , outstanding!) the size of my open hand , and I'm a big fella. Along with the cheesy garlic bread , for four persons to eat a large portion of food , we got out of there with a bill just over $100. We're pretty sure the namesake may have come by our table to ask how everything was and that's very much appreciated. When we said it was out first time he quipped back "what took you so long , we been here 60 years". You know you're doing something right in that case , and you are. Couldn't be anymore pleased. Edit : well , we made it back! Food was just as good this time as it...
