Former Employee Review (Worked Sept 2024 – May 2025)
When I first started at this Jimmy John’s location, everything seemed fine. The team worked well together, and things ran smoothly. However, once the Tomey Group took over and began transitioning into ownership, I immediately noticed a shift and it was not for the better.
They fired the manager that hired me more than likely because he was making more than the Tomey group wanted to pay. So they found a new manager they could pay much less and when she came in, it became like “what’s the least amount of work I can do and the earliest I can get out of here.” There would be times where it would be me and one other person on line, simultaneously I’m taking drive through orders and the manager felt it was more important to slice deli meat or find some other minuscule task to do instead of improving customer service and helping her crew and hop on line to get these orders through during lunch rush.
The focus was clear profits over everything. Matthew 19:24
In just 8 months, we had 3 separate price increases, none of which lined up rate of inflation. It’s funny how we can keep raising our prices but I couldn’t get a single raise. Meanwhile, the quality of ingredients ARE NOT NATURAL, it’s processed meats filled with preservatives, definitely not “natural” by any means. So if you’re health conscious, stay away from Jimmy Johns in general.
Behind the scenes, it’s about cutting costs, squeezing employees, and paying upper management (and family members tied to the owners) far more than they deserved. I personally worked side-by-side with someone who did next to nothing and was being paid $4 more per hour simply because of their connection to the Tomey Group. I, on the other hand, was denied any raise for months. I know it’s a “business” but I believe you can run a business without making immoral decisions.
I’m not here to air every detail of my experience, but I will say this: I left because it didn’t feel like honest work anymore, and I couldn’t promote something I didn’t believe in.
If you’re a customer, just know you’re paying more for less as time progresses with the Tomey group.
If you’re thinking about working here, be aware of what kind of system you’re stepping into. If you enjoy your peace of mind, find somewhere else to work.
If you’re wondering why the ship is sinking, it’s because there love of money. They don’t take care of their customers, and certainly not their honest hard...
Read moreIf i could leave zero stars, I WOULD. The link on google was incorrect, I ordered NEW BALTIMORE and went to the CHESTERFIELD location, when i ordered from New Baltimore (The 21 and gratiot crew was nice and informative) Same owner for both these locations though!!!. The Jimmy John Online order address specifically google mapped me to 21 and Gratiot, I'm not from this area so i didn't know the difference. Now i'm upset because it has been 20 minutes since ordering and i have to get back to where I was. I tried to explain what happened to the manager and he was like it happens all the time because both locations say New Baltimore. BUT i said to him shouldn't that be fixed...he said it was out of his hands. so what ever. I get the food and go back to where needed to be. I get back and we look at the one sub, something that we paid extra for was NOT on the sub. So now I'm calling the 23 and Jefferson location, where the manager is at. and a young lady answers the phone, I let her know what happened and she starts to argue with me like, "I know I made the sub correctly , it was the first one I made for the day!" I said " well i'm the customer looking at the sub, and you make alot of subs, so i don't understand why you are arguing with me, that is not how you talk to people." THEN i get handed over to the manager, he agreed how she spoke to me was wrong, but then all of a sudden he changes his tude, "Your topping was only .75 cents, want me to send over a topping? or i can replace the sub." At this point its been 45 minutes since we ordered and actually got to sit and eat at work. We decided to just eat it. BUT instead of offering something for THEIR MISTAKES. They yelled at me, and let the young lady be disrespectful to someone (not really setting an example to all the teenagers who work their either) , if the teenagers have that to look up to in their starter careers, i fear the work ethic they will carry to future jobs. If you choose to come to this Jimmy Johns, go to give a moral lesson to the young ones working for people with terrible attitudes , setting bad examples to the...
Read moreFreaky Fast, today was not. Did an online order for a Turkey Slim and a diet coke to a location less than 4 miles down the road (approx. a 4 min drive) so I wouldn't have to take a break from work to go fetch food. 40 minutes later, no food has arrived and I called up. Girl on the phone was flustered and at first they said they didn't get my order, but then I told her I had a confirmation email from them--they said maybe it went to another Jimmy Johns, I told them this was the address and phone number on the confirmation email. It was then that they said the food was listed as 'out for delivery' but couldn't give me a time frame of when it would get to me. Another 15-20 minutes or so go by and I'm about ready to call up again when he walks in with my food, citing the weather making it busier than usual...which I would accept if the time waited wasn't as long as (or longer than) going to a sit-down restaurant. I open my sandwich to find exactly what I ordered....except the wrapping paper is covered inside with what looks to be some kind of spicy seed or pepper flake? Not sure what it is, but I didn't appreciate having to dust off/pick apart my food after waiting just shy of an hour for it. Not sure if I'll bother ordering from this...
