Juan’s Mexican Grill & Bar — Restaurant in Chesterfield

My husband and I visited over the weekend while checking out houses in the area. We came in and were sat down immediately. The place felt clean and cozy. We were provided with menus and our drinks were brought to us pretty quickly. We also ordered water but the water tasted awful. Straight from the tap. So I ordered horchata and my husband ordered a beer. It was brought out as a huge 32 ounce bottle. We had to ask for a glass for it. The horchata was tasty.

We sat there talking and trying to figure out what we wanted. Nice sizable authentic section. It took our waiter about 10-15 minutes to come back to take our order. A bit too long considering there weren't too many folks in the restaurant. But ok.

I ordered the Taquitos Dorados Oaxaqueño (This was SO delicious! RECOMMENDED!) and an order of street corn. My husband had the Enchiladas De Mole (Our first time ever trying mole - Not bad!!) and a Banana Taco for dessert.

We waited for a good 20 - 25 minutes for the food to come out. Felt weird because there were folks that came in, ordered, got their food a few moments later and were relatively quickly done in comparison. Maybe because we ordered items that were not already prepared and were off the authentic menu? I don't know. it felt like too long to wait.

When it arrived, the food was really good. Flavorful, the right temperature etc. I was not so impressed with the dessert as it was a banana in a thick pita covered with sugar cinnamon and whipped cream. It also had chocolate sauce over it which was a total blah for me. But my husband enjoyed it and i ate half of the banana. It was just Ok . Nothing like the delicious entree and street corn.

The communication from the staff was a bit off then I realized that perhaps they do not speak great English.

Regardless, I had to ask for my street corn because they did not bring it initially. I had to also ask for a new fork because the one I had was so cheap that it was just a pliable, straight, flat piece of stamped metal with no bend in it which made it difficult to eat with. The second one was the same and so I just tried to bend it a little bit so I could actually eat with it. Not a huge thing but seriously,. we spent about $56 for our meal. Surely you can buy some decent forks for your customers? My husband's fork was a nice, well formed fork. lol

Our waiter did not check on us for the duration of our meal. There was a nice lady that came by and took our empty plates and we asked her to please bring our check as we forgot about the Banana Taco. She nodded and said she would tell our server. At that point the dessert came out.

We eventually got our check with no instructions to go and pay at the counter by the door. So we sat there for a while wondering if he would come back for our cards then my husband said that we probably pay up front.

A few hiccups and odd happenings but overall it was a good experience and the small things were not such a big deal. We would come back here to eat, especially when we have a bit of extra time to spend here. The food itself made the visit completely worthwhile.

Food was good, well the part we got to eat at least. We had just received our food and my daughter had to use the restroom. I let my server know twice we were going to the bathroom so they didn’t take our plates. She assured me that it was fine. We went to the bathroom, not gone even 5 mins and came back to our brand new food we took 3 bites of thrown away. No one knew what happened apparently and they apologized and said they would make it fresh. So another 10-15 mins & I receive my meal only for it to be wrong. So they remade it for a third time. By this time we’ve been here at least an hour and aren’t hungry from the chips we ate while waiting. The manager did not even come speak to me when I asked for one. I received no kind of compensation for the troubles besides the server said she didn’t put my daughter’s sprite on the bill for the inconvenience. I go to pay and leave a tip, it’s small but still a tip because at this rate the service was not great and the girl checking me out has the nerve to say “so no tip at the table then huh” I was just amazed that this is the customer service paying customers received after something that wasn’t in their control happens. I am loathe to even give this establishment a full star! A friend of mine invited me to a Christmas party/gathering for his co-workers and their upper management. We arrived 20 minutes early to find about half of our party members already there and finding their seat and getting settled. Our group numbered at least 30 people, a large enough group to fill up the tables and most of the booths on the right side of their restaurant. We were waited on by no less than 4 waiters/waitresses to serve us and it still took them over an hour and fifteen minutes to get our party served. They served us in intervals leaving half of the group served, including my friend, and finishing their meals before the other half of us, including myself, received our meals. My friend waited patiently as I tried to quickly eat my meal and finished to leave and head home around 9pm. No sooner had we pulled into the garage, my stomach began to cramp and gurgle. Needless to say i've spent the past fourteen hours frequently visiting the restroom!!! We've heard from several other members of our group stating they have had the same/similar experiences! Food poisoning!!! Are you kidding me?! Will never visit this...
