Baba fueled my home renovation.
We bought a house a few blocks from this restaurant and the house was in shambles. It had been foreclosed upon and had sat vacant for a year and that year hadn't been kind.
But the house was still beautiful - it just needed work.
So I spent the last three months working on the house every night and every weekend; Baba was with me through it all. When I stripped lamb wallpaper in long, ragged rips from the plaster walls in the front room, Baba's gyros sustained me. Cussing as I nailed red oak flooring into the front room to cover a massive hole that used to be a fireplace, Baba was behind me, egging me on with his famous ghanoush. And last week I stopped by, covered in a scintillating display of drying paint and the stink of the Summer heat, I ordered the vegetarian platter and the son of Baba asked me how the house was coming along - he hadn't heard anything since my wife had been in the week before.
Here's the thing about Baba's Schwarma Grill: it's not meant to be fancy. As the other reviewers mention, it looks like a Captain D's. But the restaurant is clean, the service is good, and it's family-owned. The food's tasty and affordable. I always leave happy.
These are the places that serve the community and they serve them well. Fancy, more expensive restaurants have their place, but by nature they are transitory and subject to changing tastes and popular perception. Places like Baba's stick around because they serve good food for a good price. I'll be eating here for...
Read moreGyros are on point, staff is awesome and friendly, my one and only complaint is the fact that they used to have amazing Greek fries (but since they got rid of the "orange-ish" colored fries, the Greek fries haven't been the same.. just seems more bland now.. that, and or they're skimping on the oil and feta cheese.. but most definitely still a staple for me as far as gyros go.. the spicy gyro is to die for, I've also tried the gyro burger and it's great as well. Never really ordered anything else because I just love what I order Everytime. Prices have gone up, but so has the economy.. so I get it.. but overall really awesome place. The lady at front desk and the younger gentleman are always very kind. Another issue would be maybe not getting enough taziki sauce on the sandwiches.. i always have to order more on side (75c per 2 oz cup seems a bit steep) but overall. A great place with the same casual folk who actually...
Read moreWas visiting family and had heard about Babas Shawarma grill. I was pleasantly surprised as the location is formerly a closed Long John Silver's and they have done a complete interior renovation with paint and seating as well as decor and flat screen tv. I ordered the falafel, chicken and house salad. Falafel is delicious a little spicier than I am used to but not overly spiced so it was a nice variation. The chicken is cooked in a blend of spices mainly a curry powder and served with hummus and pitas that have been cut into wedges. The house salad house a very nice light tasting vinaigrette and has a good amount of feta and onion with lettuce. So good. I tasted some of my family's orders and everything was very delicious. The staff was friendly and attentive to the front counter and the dining room. I will have to visit more often as I thoroughly...
