TLDR: what a charming little hole-in-the-wall mom and pop breakfast spot. we were nervous to tell you the truth. the outside of the building leaves you wanting more… until you step one foot inside… wholesome magic.
there are mugs hanging on the wall. i looked at my best friend and said, “i know this is legit” after seeing the mugs. we walked in and were not sure if we were to seat ourselves (only if we had read the sign…) and were promptly greeted by a bubbly young gal.
we took our seats and this young lady did not miss a single beat. she called people by their names. knew what they always have to drink. she busted her absolute HUMP. not to mention the 50 burgers that were ordered with short notice. 😉 she handled it like an absolute queen.
the grandpa (i don’t know if he actually is, but that’s what i’ve named him) of the place… the sweet busboy. he put on a flashing red nose and interacted with the little girl eating her butterfly pancake. which i thought was neat - kids can get their pancakes in the shape of mickey mouse, heart, butterfly, or a duck. love the inclusion for the babies! just good, wholesome fun. bringing smiles to everyone’s faces.
my best friend, natalie, got the country omelette with hashbrowns and i got the chuck wagon (b&g, eggs, hashbrowns, and a sausage link). folks, let me tell you… i’m from originally from IL. i know my b&g. these were the best b&g i’ve had in a long time. the eggs were cooked to perfection. the sourdough toast was so buttery and delicious. just a good, no-frills breakfast with excellent service and atmosphere.
we felt like we were at home. and that? THAT is the goal. i even went to the gas station before i left town and threatened (ha 😉) the cashier if she didn’t try the diamond horseshoe cafe, that she was making a colossal mistake.
thank you so much for treating us like family. it was such a pleasant experience. if we’re ever in town again… we will be back and we are counting...
Read moreI had a party of 5. The only place that didn't say they had a huge wait time. However, with how busy it was I was willing to sit at my table and wait at least 30 minutes. We waited an hour and 15 minutes and still haven't gotten our food. There were 2 cooks back there is no excuse for that long of a wait. If so the waitress should have said that I'd be a long wait. We asked the waitress how much longer, since we have been patient and waiting for 1 hour +, she said our cooks are new only been there a month. My husband is a cook aswell and have done better by himself in a full busy Penny"s Diner. We have 2 little kiddos and they don't even have coloring books and my kids are trying so hard to be patient. Losing their humor pretty quick. I guess give it a shot if you have no where to be for a while.
Update: got out food and it was alright. The cooks forgot our 3rd egg. Let's just say the cooks aren't getting a tip. Next time please don't make excuses for the cooks, maybe have some coloring book menus for the kids, and let people know how long they may be waiting. We had decent service minus how long it took for 2 cooks to cook food. Never have I ever had to wait that...
Read moreHave been a customer since 1978 and I keep returning its not fancy food no its comfort food breakfast lunch n dinner. Waitresses are welcoming one of their saying if your difficult or grouchy then there's a surcharge. All in fun well 98% of the time I remember a time that my so called father was giving the waitress a hard way to go and I told him off for so he told the waitress that I would wash dishes to pay for my meal. Well the waitress and owner heard and well they weren't having any part of his so called punishment so the owner tacked on a charge of $10 for his behavior he didn't realize it till after he paid the ticket. And so that was the start of the grouch n difficult customer saying started. Do they really do so after that one time not that I ever heard of. This was in 1978 I was 14yrs old then. The waitresses just give the regular customersa hard time back all in fun. And yes I continue as a regular customer and will so long as they're doors...
