If you wonder how the Cantonese home dishes taste like, this is the place! Grand palace has been there for quite a while , the owners are very nice people so you would see many repeat customers. For each meal they would offer you a free soup and sometimes with fruit after the meal.
What to order: For people who first come to this place and want to do the authentic way. Here are the dishes we had so many times and they shouldn't go wrong. Stir Fried pork belly (a bit spicy) Steamed Fish (with fish bone) Steamed Eggs (go with the minced pork one) Yam Leaf The best way to enjoy them: mix the soy-source from steam fish and the steam eggs with your rice, add a bit stir friend pork belly and yam leaf on top of your rice and have them all in one bite. If you are not used to have fish with bones, skip it, other dishes will still make you happy. Soft shell crab(with duck yolk) Five spice duck If you are a sea food lover, ask them what they have that day. If they have scallop, try steam scallop with vermicelli noodles with soy source.
Transportation: The only downside is they didn't locate in Chinatown, public transportation is hard to get there unless you don't mind walking. Parking space is limited so try to park in S Princeton Ave or somewhere around. Call them before you go in case...
Read moreA family-run Cantonese seafood restaurant that screams "don't mess with tradition". The food here is unpretentious and this is reflected in both the ingredients and price. The things to die for here: roast duck served with five-spice sauce, deep fried soft shell crab, salt & pepper squid, and stewed beef tripe with tofu skin. The taste of the dishes takes a step back from commercial kitchens and reminds you of home-style cooking. Moreover, while most Chinese restaurants tend to use a ton of oil and MSG to enhance the flavor, there is a level of lightness to each dish that leaves you satisfied the entire evening. Advanced reservation is encouraged as the space is small. The ladies who take the orders might not have the best command of English, but when they have a suggestion for a dish, maybe because you looked stuck, do not think twice. This is a hidden-gem of Chicago's Chinese restaurant scene that I would absolutely recommend to any foodie who has a passion for adventures in...
Read moreHomestyle Chinese cooking at its finest. It has been my favorite hole in the wall Chinese restaurant for many years. I recommend it to friends who were raised Chinese and don't expect excessively manufactured seasonings for a great meal. The hominess of the cooking is what keeps this is an underground favorite in the area, even though they have recently, albeit deservedly, increased prices. The parking lot is a bit cramped, and the decor outdated. Its owner is seemingly one of the only waitresses, hostesses, and cooks, but she keeps the place humming with consistently good service and great food. No matter how busy, I rarely feel rushed and our parties always enjoy their food. It is an interesting dining experience that I highly recommend. Like most Chinese restaurants, they also have a thriving...
