You are missing out if you don't come here!!!
We had a craving for Dim Sum and swung by late Friday night. Holy smokes the food was AMAZING despite the late hour!!! Very very fresh and expertly prepared!!
I particularly appreciated their rice noodle dough used to prepare the Cheung Fun and Har Gow. Most places are a bit dry 'cause it's old dough, which is fine, but wowsers New Furama knocked it out of the park!!! Ooey gooey and perfectly glutenous with just this perfect al-dente texture that had a pleasant chewy bite but also melted in your mouth? What is this magic!? I honestly could have eaten just a plate of their plain rice noodles!!
The wait staff was also top notch. They had the perfect touch of attentiveness without being disruptive. Ming, the host, was a perfect gentlemen with a fantastic smile and genuinely welcoming smile.
I wish I caught the name of our waitress because she was amazing (sadly a rarity in many Chinese restaurants). We knew what we wanted to order however she still helped us pick out dishes in a collaborative way that inspired confidence in our choices. Like she wasn't pushy at all, and we're familiar with Dim Sum, but she brought an extra level of richness and depth to the dishes with explaining what was in them or what they were. Who knew ordering Dim Sum could be so fun!?!?
Finally the facilities are top notch!! As many have already pointed out it's newly remodeled and it looks FANTASTIC!! Very modern and clean!! I remember the old restaurant, which was okay, but had this 80's look. The new interior and facilities has this premium feel to it--like you're at the Gold Coast or something, but with less hipsters and tight jeans!! =)
The next time you're in Chinatown make that extra little drive and swing down to New Furama!! It's absolutely worth the trip. For two of my friends it was their first time trying Dim Sum and I'm afraid they're going to be spoiled...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at Furama and the experience was nothing short of remarkable. Nestled in the heart of Chicago, Furama offers a delightful escape into the world of traditional Chinese flavors, particularly with their dim sum.
The highlight, without a doubt, was their dim sum. Each dish was a testament to the culinary skills and authenticity that Furama prides itself on. The menu offered a wide variety of choices, from classic steamed buns to more unique and adventurous options. The shrimp dumplings were a revelation – delicate, translucent wrappers encasing perfectly seasoned, succulent shrimp. The Siu Mai were equally impressive, with a rich and savory filling that melted in the mouth.
Another standout was the barbecue pork buns. The buns were fluffy and light, with a sweet and tangy pork filling that was cooked to perfection. The Chicken Feet in Black Bean Sauce was a daring choice for me, but it turned out to be incredibly flavorful and tender, a dish that truly showcased the chefs' expertise in traditional Chinese cooking techniques.
The freshness of the ingredients was evident in every bite, and the flavors were expertly balanced – a true hallmark of high-quality dim sum.
Furama also impressed with its efficient service. Despite the bustling atmosphere, our dishes arrived promptly, and the staff were always on hand to offer recommendations and ensure our dining experience was seamless.
Furama is a must-visit for anyone seeking authentic, delicious Chinese cuisine. Their dim sum is a culinary delight that promises to tantalize your taste buds and leave you longing for more. Read moreI never thought I’d catch myself writing a negative review like this- yet here I am. I wanted to give the benefit of the doubt that it was just an off day for them- but we clearly were not welcomed here. Staff wasn’t attentive and we started off by only ordering 3 dishes, with the intent to order more. We had made it very clear to our server yet she and another server kept coming around and taking our pen back- when we kept saying we weren’t done. Then when we explained that we wanted the tea + more dishes we got questioned with “It’s extra are you sure you want it? You’d have to pay extra. You really want it- it’s not free you know. You will have to pay” I understand getting questioned once but after repeatedly responding “yes that’s fine” four times already- you’d think after the fifth “yes that’s fine” they’d understand that we have no issue with paying extra. For god’s sake we came here to eat and obviously pay for our meal?? When it was time for my partner to pay the waitress smirked and said “oh i’m suprised he is paying. He a big boy? He has money??” That’s the comment that really made us uncomfortable and made it seem that we were being targeted. Won’t be back- plus the food quality wasn’t worth the cost. Dumplings fell through the rapper, skin on the duck was chewy, and egg tarts were dry and tasteless. While exiting the resturant the stairs had just been freshly mopped and there was no sign!! Imagine if we hadn’t noticed we could have slipped and fallen down the stairs. Overall, completely unprofessional establishment and better off spending...
