Cheese Steak Shop — Restaurant in Chico

I walked into this place at 12:26pm on 12/10 there were 3 customers seated eating. A casheir on the right register gave me a calm greeting and as I walked up another cashier on the left walked up and said hang on I'll be right with you after some issue with the register in a really fast agreesive tone.

I was slightly put off as the other guy had already greeted me and it was uneccessary for another cashier. It was my first time visiting the place so I asked him what was his favorite sandwich was? He replied by far our best seller is the plain cheesesteak. which wasn't my question, so I asked again in a calm tone what is YOUR favorite he mumbled the same thing again. At that point I asked for a large philly cheesesteak with grilled onions and sweet peppers and please add fries and a drink. He then replied our meal deal comes with a small fry, dring and sandwich. I explained to him I wanted the large sandwich not a small at which point he just kept repeating himself and talking faster and faster. He seemed quite flustered from a basic order and I told him I don't understand why I have to get a small sandwich when I want a large with the meal. ALL HE HAD TO DO IS TELL ME A TOTAL FOR WHAT I ASKED FOR. Instead her created all this confusion and started mansplaining why I could'nt order it that way. Finally I just asked for the sandwich only because he made no sense and was talking really fast. I even told him I am in not in a rush as it felt like he was just trying to rush me out of the place.

Why would you not allow someone to order the above request it made no sense. When I got the sandwich the meat was cold and the onions were not grilled. I am actually from New Jersey and this was the poorest excuse for a philly I HAVE EVER HAD!

My advice would be put someone on the register that knows how to LISTEN and not just ramble out thier nonsense.

The order came out in less then two minutes which explains why everything was cold and not cooked correctly. If I could rate this place ZERO stars I would based on that poor...

We haven’t been there recently, but I feel like it’s time : my hubby usually picks us up a couple Delicious Sandwiches with onions & peppers- and all that yummy cheese. 🤪 He goes crazy for their Big Steak fries! (He is 6’5” and big hands want big fries :🤯A no brainer in his mind!) We always get great service & Great Food! Oh boy now our tummy’s are grumbling for a Cheese Steak Sandwich 😋.

Update: we’ve been back to Cheese Steak Shop 2 times since posting the above comments. 😋 It’s still a very delicious Sandwich & terrific fries! If you haven’t tried it yet: snap to it as it’ll be worth dropping by for a yummy lunch /dinner.

We still give them a 5 star rating for food...

This place isn't anything to write home about... As a matter of fact, it's not worth the gas for another visit even if it was free.

The "large" Philli cheesesteak is enough to feed a small toddler at best, and contained more vegetables than anything else. The taste was bland and subpar in comparison to other cheesesteaks I have had during my many travels. I suspect they are still in business due to not having much of a rival market in Chico...
