Rione Italian Restaurant — Restaurant in Chico

We spent $130 for waiting so long we had to take our food to go. Everything was bad, we feel totally ripped off. Bread was like a cruton which was oily in itself served with more oil. Plus it was about 30 minutes before we got the bread. We had a hard time finding anything on the menu that wasn't a cream sauce (there are two items). The house salad we split (thankfully or we would have had to spend more $). My husband ordered a pesto dish and wanted to add chicken. We were told it wouldn't be a problem then that was revised to tell us they only had thigh meat. Really? Is chicken breast too expensive food cost or what? Oh yes and the pesto did I mention oil? Lots of it again. I ordered the salmon and that was good but the sauce it was served in looked like red throw up. Don't even know what was served under it. It didn't taste bad but I thought it definitely was either a consistency for either baby food or puree for an elderly person with swallowing issues. Maybe the stuff under was a vegetable, I hope because there were none on my plate to speak of. I asked if I could order a side of pasta so I could try it; thinking it would be homemade and actually good. The server suggested ordering the kids meal so I could try it then decided that wasn't going to be acceptable she would have to charge us for the adult serving which should only be $14, nope! It was $20 and SUPER SPICY. Must have peppers in the sauce which could be homemade but I wished I could have had California Pasta Production pasta, or Crush or even Olive Garden pasta would have been better. I had to cancel the pizza I ordered for my son because we ran out of time at waiting for an hour. I had to feed my kid the adult serving of pasta with meatballs that was spicy and that I paid $20 for. This definitely felt like this restaurant is trying to be authentic, trying to save on food costs and zero idea of how to cater to their customer. Lastly we were still hungry after our cruton bread, salad and entree. Don't you have to be really full after eating an Italian dinner? Oh last thing, if you're a vegetarian there'll be lots of options for you. There's hardly any meat offered with any of the dishes on the menu except for sausage or chicken thigh meat. The food is impeccable, and very exquisite to the palette. The portion size was perfect and the menu was set in courses, which is the Italian way. The prices are a little steep but worth it once a bite is taken.

Our service was not too much but not too little. My party would give 5 stars however the reason I didn't is because our server ignored me when I was trying to place my drink order and then again when I tried to get her attention for service. I'm sure her mind was full of work-related stuff and do not hold it against her. It was a very busy night after all. The owner also came to check on things at our table which was a delight.

The atmosphere was not too favorable. The restaurant was way too loud. We were having to yell at each other to have a conversation with each other. I could never bring a sensory-sensitive person to this establishment and sit inside. There is outdoor seating, which may be ideal, and I will reserve a table there to see how it goes. The restroom was clean and the establishment was well-decorated, well-lit, and very clean. Minus the noise, Rhone Italian Restaurant is as perfect as it can be and not be a dream. Had a terrible experience at Rione on Saturday. They have their buster recklessly carry as many dishes as they can in their hand as they walk them back and forth to the kitchen. One of the waiters tripped and dumped all of the leftover wine onto me. I was soaked and she just looked at me and said that should didn't know what to do. I asked her if she could get me some towels and new napkins. The manager came over and my friend tried to explain what happened but the manager quickly walked away and said "Looks like she's got it". I was so shocked and embarrassed. I processed for a while and decided to let our waiter know how I was feeling and asked if I could speak with the manager. I told the manager how I was feeling and she replied that there was nothing that she could do for me and if I felt uncomfortable then that was on me. She said it was an absurd accident and proceeded to tell me again that there was nothing they could do for me after I had said I would like to take my food to go. it was too expensive for the quality of food and the atmosphere was cheap for what I thought was going to be an upscale restaurant.
