First of all the food here is pretty good & this review is not for the food. So I grew up in this neiborhood when I was a kid & have been comming to this place for years ( way before they remodeled it & made it all fancy) and basically itcwas a typical pizza/ grinder shop with some good homade food & recipes. They had one of the best cold cut grinders anywhere & the meatballs were homemade & delicious & the cold cut & meatball grinder here were 2 of my favorites of all time ( and that is saying a lot comming from me) who considers myself a food expert & I have eaten not 100' but 1000's of cold cut & meatball grinders on my life & this place ranks among the best. With that being said I moved out of the old neiborhood a long tome ago & went to try this place again a few years back & after I was seated & git my drink I was told that pizza & grinders are not only to go & I could not order these here anymore only to go, So I ended up ordering a veal payment meal ( which was over $25.00) and it was not bad, but was just not great either & was at best just so so. So today ( about 2 years after this,) I was in the general neiborhood on business & was with my mother & she said she would like a cold cut grinder & recommend this place & I told her what happened past time I tried this, but I declined to call them & I asked if I could still order a pizza ot grinder for dine in ( because last time I could not & did not want to repeat this) and the firl said yes I could. So I asked her again & repeated it again to her & said for dine in & again she said yes I can. But they no longer served lettuce, tomato. Or mayonnaise on any of there grinders & they no longer made cold cut grinders at all. So I told my mom this & she said ok, we could both just get the meatball 🍖 grinder & I headed over there & when I entered I asked the girl at the counter again about the pizza & grinders & was told the same think they told me a few years back that I could no longer order pizza or grinders for dine in & only to go & furthermore they not only had personal pizzas only!!! I do not know if this girl at the desk is the same girl I talked to o er the phone or not, but I told here this story here & thst I just called 20min ago for this exact reason so that I would not waste my time driving all they way over here for nothing & then intold her o was going to go elsewhere & I left & will never be returning ever again. There pizza & grinders are very good here, now are only for takeout only. There meals here are not bad & are good, but the prices are as high or higher then a 4 to 5 star Italian restraunt ( the veal parm is a lot better over at Figoros in Enfield ct) And is also a little less money over e at Figoros. They are trying to turn this little pizza shot into a fancy Italian Cafe & although there food is ok, they just have nothing special here so that when you walk out the door & say that was great & go & tell all of your friends about it ( and me & my family have ordered many meals here over the years) Nothing was bad, but every is always just so so ar best & if you can name me a dish they have on there menu that you like I can name another restraunt in the general area that will make that same dish for you better for the same price or less & there for I really sew no reason to come back here unless I happen to be in the general area & want a meat nall...
Read moreWe've been to Milano's in the past and always had a great experience. On a whim, we decided to go for Father's Day this year and it was thoroughly disappointing. Our server was super slow with the pacing of the meal, leaving a gap of over 20 minutes between our courses (aps, salad/soup, entree). Our reservations were for 7, but we didn't get out entrees until just before 8. It got to the point toward the end that the cook actually came out to see who was taking so long in the dining room because they were closing. The food was all poor imitation. Calamari that seemed like it came from the bait aisle. Minestrone from a can with spaghetti in it passed off as "house made" fagioli, only 3 pastas to choose from on the "special holiday menu"; spaghetti, linguine, and "ziti" which was actually penne (and I'm not sure how any Italian could make this mistake). The braised short ribs weren't short ribs, substituted by some chunk of mystery roast that had surely been cooked for hours or maybe even days, and all of the pasta had a tinge of vomit flavor and smell, a telltale sign of precooked pasta that is very far past its expiration. Since it was a special holiday, with a special holiday menu, we of course were greeted with special holiday prices that weren't listed anywhere prior to getting the check. One of my favorites was the "crazy alfredo" for $25 that was literally 3 fried Sysco chicken tenders, cut up with some sliced sausage in alfredo sauce. If this place hadn't stumbled across what I have to assume must be the best 5-in-1-style tomato sauce recipe for a quick marinara, I think they'd be closed already. (IYKYK) We paid our $200+ dollar bill, tipped our server 20%, and we will...
Read moreHave been a customer for many years but our most recent visit was unacceptable. We arrived 5:45 pm and hoped for a booth across from the bar which is our usual spot. All three booths were occupied and there was no one waiting to be seated. We told the gurl we were waiting for another couple to arrive. We told her we would like a booth but she asked if we wanted to be seated and we said yes. Walking by one of the booths we noticed the people were packing their leftovers and were getting ready to leave. When we seated at a table in the far dining area my wife went back to ask the front desk if we could have the booth after the people left. She was told that once you are seated this was not allowed? When our server approached us with the standard water glasses we asked him. He said he would go back and check. Sure enough he came back and said we could not switch as it was policy? I have never heard of this not only at this restaurant but in any others in my lifetime. We decided to leave before our other couple arrived and as we walked by the desk the two young women were there and again no one was waiting to be seated. Our other couple was just coming in so the entire episode lasted less than six minutes. My question is has anyone else run into this at Milanos or for that matter any other restaurant 🤔 I didn't see any signs or mention of this...
