A truly exceptional experience all around, Greenbush is the standard to which all true microbreweries aspire. Excellent beer, a superb food menu, and the perfect brew house vibe makes GB a true icon of Michigan's already impressive brewery portfolio. Their tap list spans a wide variety of styles, with each entry standing as a strong representation of the category, ensuring that even if you tend to gravitate to only one kind of beer, you'll be happy with GB's offering. Their Star Chicken Shotgun is likely GB's most well-known and widely circulated brew, and with good reason. Refreshingly bright, with a citrusy crispness overtop a complex hop profile, this West Coast IPA takes care to highlight the 5-hop medley serving as the base for this well-deserved flagship. At the other end of the spectrum, the 2 Year Barrel Aged Delusion is an imperial cream stout, aged in whiskey barrels from the local Journeyman Distillery, and is deceptively easy-drinking for its gravity; the whiskey barrel booziness is masterfully balanced out by the velvety smoothness of the cream. The food menu is the perfect compliment to the tap list, leaning into Southern comfort influences with house-made BBQ meats & hot sauces, alongside a long list of sandwiches full of house-made deli meat. The smokehouse chili is extraordinary, heavily loaded with brisket and spectacularly flavorful throughout. The fried chicken is phenomenal—crispy, expertly spiced skin on plump, juicy chicken when served "plain," made even better by any of the house hot sauces. Level 4 has a delightful balance of heat and flavor, with Level 5 offering access to the elusive "spicer's high," so rarely found in restaurants marketing to the general public.
Tl;Dr: "Heavy hitting" is an apt descriptor for both the food and the beer at Greenbush, which makes them both so well-suited to pair with each other. A visit to GB's home location is sure to leave even the most discerning, thirst-for-life brewery lovers filled, fulfilled, and eager to return.
Bartender Eric & brewer Mike gave exemplary service and company during my 1st visit, and I ardently look forward...
Read moreI lived in Sawyer when this place opened up and every time we have a guest at our house, they have a place to stop in at Greenbush. There is quite a draw to the place and the beer never disappoints. The food menu is a joy as well, many of the meats are smoked or cured in house, and the menu will only get better as time goes on and as Greenbush grows. I wanted to give it a 5-star, however I have heard so many stories of bad service and have experienced less than stellar service as well. This is troubling considering how good the beer is and how much thought is put into making Sawyer a great place. I have been told that tips are pooled, which doesn't give a whole lot of motivation to work for a tip, since you are pooling it all at the end of the night. So all in all, I never know what to expect when I go in and am served. Regarding the quality of the beer, this place is 5-star, no doubt. They make the best beer around although there are many competitors. Each beer they make is a fun creation, and even the lab-beers are something to get excited about. This place is popular because it makes the best beer in this corner of the state (although I'm real excited about Transient Artisan Ales who do sour ales, which Greenbush doesn't do). Regarding the food, they are also a 5-star, although there isn't much thought to organic options, which makes me lean more toward a 4-star. Regarding the service, they are probably a 3-star. This is super disappointing for me to write because I love the place so much, but between my negative experiences and the ones that have been explained to me, this is simply not acceptable. I have worked many service jobs before and know it can be frustrating, but it doesn't make it acceptable for a server to be rude or unpleasant toward anyone in my party. Overall, I'm very excited we have a place like this in our neighboring town. It is...
Read moreI had the bacon Mac and Cheese and it was amazing. Crust crispies on top with melted cheese and ooey gooey yummy cheese. I got the large portion and could only eat a quarter of it, there is so much so I suggest sharing or saving for another couple meals.
My husband has the Italian beef and he said it was good. My son had the chicken strips which were hand dips and I snagged a bite and they were soooo tasty. I like how they opened up the outside eating areas and it felt way more open. We were seated right away and got our food out within 10 mins of sitting down.
The service was also excellent. It was 12pm on a Sunday before labor day if that helps gauge you on timing. Anyway, super delicious food and beer my husband and I got the ship barrel aged stout that was on draft.
They didn't have soft drinks persay that were not in a bottle so be aware if you are bringing kids they will probably need to get root beer.
We also saw people bring in babies like in baby seats babies and felt that seemed to be a bit awkward and odd as there really wasn't a place but the floor for them to be, unless they put them on the high table, the inside where we sat had high top table and chairs. Other than seeing them toting them in I really didn't pay attention to them.
To each their own but honestly I am bit on the fence with the baby etiquette of bring your baby everywhere mentality ....maybe not in a bar though, it is a taboo subject, I know, so moving on.
All ages were seen and heard, food was excellent and beer was cold what more could you ask for. Also there is a garden center very close by that you can browse and see cool stuff and flowers.
Bill was under $80...
