We stopped for a quick lunch at Wheat’s Artisan Bakery and Pizzeria today on our way back to Fort Worth from Amarillo. It was a great experience! The food was delicious. You wouldn’t expect to find a good chicken salad sandwich on a super fresh and light crescent in a pizzeria it was a very pleasant surprise. The homemade cookies were melt in your mouth delicious! I had the peanut butter cookie which was extra large, soft and truly melted in my mouth. Although we didn’t order any pizza (a mistake I won’t make again) the aromas from the showcased wood fire pizza oven were intoxicating. The table beside ours was close enough to view the pizzas they had ordered (and devoured) filling me with regret for not opting for the traditional fair. The restaurant is spotless from the eating area to the kitchen and restrooms. The owner and his staff are very friendly and courteous. I love all the details and thought put into the refurbished building. The owner was more than happy to share some of his interesting experiences with the restoration of the location from an automotive garage with bay doors to a modern pizzeria. You did a great job! Kudos to the owners! I’d give you a 10 star rating if that...
Read moreFound this place when searching for “breakfast near me” on a road trip. Enticed by the excellent reviews and thoughts of cinnamon rolls, we pressed on to Childress to check out this gem of a place. As promised by Google and Yelp reviewers, this place serves up delectable biscuits w/sausage gravy, scones, and cinnamon rolls (w/cream cheese icing)! We had a choice of buttermilk or jalapeño biscuits. We went with the buttermilk. The sausage gravy has a tiny kick to it…not overpowering…just enough to make it stand out. Very satisfying! The cinnamon rolls were delicious as is, or warmed. Great combination of textures with a slightly chewy dough and a slight caramelized crunch here and there on the bottom from the filling. The cream cheese icing had just the right amount of sweetness without being overly sweet. So good that we bought the rest that they had before leaving. And the owners really are just as sweet and friendly as can be…super enjoyed chatting with them. Be sure to sign the guest book! They love to look at it at the end of the day to see where all people have come from. I certainly hope to have the opportunity to be back through there at lunch time one day to try the...
Read moreIt is rare to find a restaurant these days with genuine love for what they do, but when you do, it is very apparent in the atmosphere, the service, and the food. After a 2 week road trip from Fort Worth TX to Long Beach California, and then back again, our family visited many restaurants along the way. Either the food was good but the service and atmosphere lacking, or else the service was good but the food and atmosphere were lacking. These restaurants ranged from fast food to five star places, and from famous chains to privately owned. It wasn't until our very last stop on our way back home, that we providentially found this small, family owned restaurant with not only amazing food, but with the service and hospitality to match it. Our daughter has dietary restrictions, and the wife's owner came out not only to greet us but went above and beyond trying to accommodate us with options that weren't even on the menu - and best of all, she did it with patience, kindness, and love (yes! love from a complete stranger!) I don't know how else to convince people to come and visit this little restaurant, but if you do, you will absolutely not leave...
