Attended a family member's Birthday Party on 7/28/18. Was not overjoyed that the party room wasn't prepared for us ahead of time. Don't really know why my cousin bothered with reservations. In fact, l was dissapointed in a number of things in that establishment that night. As the server was taking our order, l asked her what the special of the day was. She told me it was BBQ ribs. I asked her how much was a half rack? She said $9.99; so l decided on those rather than a Hamburger Steak because they were the same price. Later on during dinner, other people with other parties were leaving. The personnel, servers what have you, started separating tables. They were dragging tables and chairs across the floor that we couldn't even hear the guest of honor reading her birthday cards aloud. I finally spoke up and said, "Do you mind? I mean for crying out loud...people are still trying to finish their dinner here. Jeez..." So, looking back on the entire evening, l decided l would never be back. I was really unhappy and dis-satisfied.... everything from the time l arrived, to feeling hurried so she could take my plate until the last straw at checkout. My ticket had a price of $14.95 for a half rack of ribs! I was furious! I explained the server had said it would be $9.99 so she went and found the "manager/part owner" as she called herself. She could have cared less what l said. She said the price was in the menu and there were no exceptions! I tried to explain that l had asked the server about a Sat. special and the server had told me the information. By now, l'm fuming! I told her if l had known it would cost that much for a half rack....l would definitely have ordered the hamburger steak! I paid my bill, went back to the table, picked up the $5.00 tip l had left and gathered my things. They will never get another red cent from me. I left two stars because they sang Happy Birthday to the Party Girl and the food was good. Not $15...
Read moreThis was my first time doing take out at this restaurant. I parked in front of the restaurant and walked inside to place an order. I was told to go outside to a different door on the side of the building because it wasn't accessible to guests from the inside.
I drove my car to the side and went inside to place my order. The floor was unlevel, so caution should be used when entering. The employee was very busy handling orders for a couple of other customers and she told me she'd get to me in a minute. Two other customers walked inside after she told me that and she took their orders first. When she finally took my order she entered it wrong and overcharged me. After paying, I asked for a copy of my receipt that indicated the prices. I showed her the error and she got a manager to do the refund. The manager gave me $15 cash from the drawer, but I asked if she could just put it back on my card. She said it would take a few days for the money to show back up in my account and I said I didn't mind that. Then she said she couldn't because she didn't have a code that she needed to be able to do it. I allowed her to give me cash, but then I calculated the amount of the food and taxes and realized she shorted me. I called it to the attention of the person that overcharged me after she came over to apologize for the error. The price difference was never reconciled.
While waiting for my order to arrive I purchased a 20 oz drink from the drink cooler they had. Again I paid at the register. The drink was $2.99+tax. She charged me the full price plus tax and still didn't reconcile the overcharge difference.
My lesson... IF I return to this restaurant, I'll definitely pay in cash and request an itemized receipt. The reconciled difference wasn't much, but if someone is going to come up short, then it shouldn't be the customer. I was going to leave a carryout tip, but I decided they took what...
Read moreYou ready for some dad-approved dining? Because let me tell ya, we just hit up China Grove Family House in China Grove, North Carolina, and folks, it was a grover. Get it? Like, a groove? Okay, okay, settle down, I'm just warming up. First off, the name itself, China Grove Family House, just screams, "Bring your appetite and maybe a spare belt!" And boy, did we! The moment you walk in, it's got that cozy, friendly vibe. You know, the kind of place where you feel like you could tell the waiter your deepest secrets, but you'd probably just order the meatloaf instead. Now, let's talk food. I ordered the special, and it was so good, I almost asked it to marry me. But then I remembered I'm already happily married, and my wife gives me free dessert, so, you know, priorities. My son, bless his heart, ordered the burger and fries. He said it was "un-bun-lievable!" I told him, "Son, you're becoming more like me every day!" He groaned. Mission accomplished! The portions? Let's just say you won't leave hungry. In fact, you might need a wheelbarrow to get to your car. I'm not saying I needed a nap after lunch, but my eyelids were definitely doing some heavy lifting. The service was fantastic too – our waitress was so attentive, she practically read my mind. I think she even refilled my sweet tea before I knew I wanted it. That's not service, folks, that's sorcery! All in all, if you're ever in China Grove and looking for a place that serves up good old-fashioned comfort food with a side of charm, give China Grove Family House a try. You'll leave with a full belly and maybe even a few extra pounds, but hey, that's just more to love, right? It's a place where every meal feels like coming home. And believe me, that's no wok in the park to find! Ha! I'll be here all week, folks! Try...
