Be ready to wait…
We waited over 30 minutes to be seated since it’s a pretty new establishment. There was water available outside, but no cups that day. At around 2 PM today, it was about 79°F, and the outdoor patio felt too hot and uncomfortable. The noise from passing cars made it worse, so we were hoping for a better experience once seated, but it took another 10 minutes before anyone even took our order or offered water.
I ordered green and poblano chilaquiles but was served red, possibly chipotle, and poblano instead. I decided to keep them, as they were actually good, just not what I asked for. My husband got the chile relleno, which wasn’t on the menu but was written on a chalkboard outside, so it might be a seasonal item.
Food took a long time to come out. Several tables around us, who were seated later, were served much faster. We only ordered two basic dishes and regular coffee but ended up leaving much later than everyone else. The birria add on came in a tiny cup, more like a sample than a real portion. I was asked how I wanted my eggs, which made it seem like they were included, but they ended up being an extra charge. Most places include eggs with chilaquiles, so that felt misleading and unnecessary pricey. (I would not have ordered eggs if it was mentioned to be additional charge)
Coffee cups are small, only slightly bigger than espresso, so be ready to ask for multiple refills.
On a positive note, the birthday experience looked really nice. They sang and brought out a sweet little dessert, which added a festive and thoughtful touch for the celebration at the table near us.
The staff was friendly, and I understand some delays aren’t their fault, but the service felt disorganized overall. The experience didn’t quite match the hype. Will come again at a different time, ask to be seated inside and order different items hopefully it will be a...
Read moreWe really were looking forward to trying this place and wanted to love it. There was about a 25 minute wait which wasn’t bad at all, we got sat and the service was great at first. The food came out and was disappointing, my husband’s meal was overly salty and mine just didn’t live up to the pictures in previous reviews. I got the fresa pancakes because they sounded amazing and looked really great in past reviews, but what I got looked nothing like the pictures, had bits of green from the strawberries and was dry because there wasn’t enough of the cream and no strawberry compote on top like previously pictured or syrup or the side. I also asked for over medium eggs, but when they came out they were what I’d consider even less cooked than over easy, I could see clear runny egg white by the yolks and I couldn’t finish them. Like I said before, the service was great at first but once we got our food it’s like we were forgotten by our server. The bussers came and cleared our plates and we waited patiently to be brought the check for a while, but at least 20 minutes passed and it got to the point where I was trying to get our server’s attention and someone else at the restaurant noticed it and sent them our way. I still tipped well because I was a brunch server in the past and I know how hectic it can get but past reviews have noted that they also felt forgotten once it was time for the check so I think it’s a trend. We know they just opened and maybe they’re working on getting their groove, maybe we will try again in...
Read moreHeard about this spot from a co worker and found livingchulavista post about it opening this past week . Came in late AM around 10:40am waited about 20 mins to be seated. We were seated outside for a table of three and one of the seats was dead center in direct sun. We looked around to see if this corner had a sunshade to drop down but no. Food and drink Menu is pretty straight toward. Ordered the all American with an additional side of beans ,Chicken enchilada with a side of beans and then a Birria omelette. I didn’t enjoy the taste & texture of the eggs which tasted fake. Most places would disclose if they use fake (carton eggs) or real eggs. The potatoes were bland and so were the beans. The birria didn’t have the flavoring that I’m normally use to ( I understand many cook /season differently ) but - it just tasted like shredded beef in a bland sauce. The enchiladas were ok I’m used to the whole tortilla being slathered in sauce rather than just the top having sauce only. This establishment has nice decor and reminds me of spots in north park/ South Park. There is a parking lot in this area but may fill up quick due to the other surrounding places. Hostess & waiters are nice , friendly and welcoming. To my taste buds it is lacking in flavor none of these dishes would have me...
