I went to Caffè Vivace to see some live jazz, and there were 2 performances that night. It was easy to locate where it was, and there's free parking very close by after 6pm, which is nice, due to it being a jazz lounge after 6pm. Before 6pm it's a cafe/coffee shop with breakfast sandwiches and a wide selection of coffee. I arrived around 9pm, and watched the first quartet finish up their set. There was a charge to sit to help pay the musicians, $10 for a stool and $20 for a table, though for tables this fee can be split (on their website it says this fee is variable and can change). There is also a $10 drink minimum per person, per set of musicians. I have need up getting food and a drink, and the food did help cover this, which I greatly appreciated. It also seems like they aren't the most strict about this as long as you order something, though that may be due to how many people were there. When the jazz musicians are performing, they have a silent policy where you cannot talk during the performances. This isn't set in stone, as you can still order and talk with those next to you, so long as you are being quiet and not bothering the musicians or the other customers who may be listening. The people who attend these are fairly diligent about this rule, and when someone was talking when I went the band nonchalantly mentioned they followed Caffè Vivace's rule of silence during performances, and that person did not break the rule again. The drinks are served fairly quickly with a low crowd, but if it's a full house the drinks can take some time to arrive, as they make and deliver them first come first serve. All the employees are very nice and friendly, and the food and drinks prepared tasted great. This is also friendly towards those under 21, with other drink options available–I recommend their hot chocolate, it tastes incredible! Past 10pm, the performances are typically youth jazz performances, though I don't know if that is every night they have live music or simply when I went, though the turnout was easily 15-20 college students (which amounted to an almost completely full house). I thoroughly enjoyed my visit and recommend other check it out if you...
Read moreTook a walk over here after lunch today because the food and summer heat was making me sleepy and a friend recommended the coffee here (and the jazz in the evenings). First of all, beautiful place with an intriguing menu; I wanted to try everything including the alcoholic drinks. Secondly, service here was OUT OF THIS WORLD. I ordered their marigold mocha latte and Sly (new barista, seasoned bartender) told me he hadn't made one before so we were both a little nervous. I got it go and was just rounding the corner outside, enjoying this delicious drink that tasted like no other coffee I had ever had, when I hear someone yelling for me to wait. I turned around and Sly had RUN out to tell me that he forgot to put the espresso in my drink (no wonder it tasted so delicious). He literally went out of his way to make sure my drink was good, and took it back in to add the espresso and top it off. He even offered to make me a new one. It was somehow EVEN better when he added the espresso, and between the drink and the service, I am so touched and...
Read moreWent to an Art Gore show (tribute to Herbie Hancock), second set (9-10:15). Met $10/person drink requirement with fall drinks and mocktail mule, all of which were great. The only problem was with the show: the band started 9 minutes late and ended 2 minutes early with a lot of filler talking between songs. The top 5 Herbie songs were not played. Apparently the first set ran long, so it was disappointing when ours was much shorter than it was supposed to be. The other band members and the Caffe staff seemed surprised when Art said the set was over but when the audience asked for one more song at 10:13, the bassist said, “I’ve got to wake up early in the morning.” Maiden Voyage was requested but not played and, as I mentioned before, they did not play any of his other top songs. We will come in the future for other shows but we were disappointed with this...
