Ichiban — Restaurant in Cincinnati

The food is excellent, the service good - but the decor above the main dining area reflects all sound back down... Perhaps the intent is to make it seem 'loud and lively' - but it is honestly louder than any restaurant I have ever been too, requiring my fiancee and I to raise our voices and almost yell at each other across a small two person table just so we could make out what was being said. It was so loud I didn't realize there was music on until I left the dining area to use the restroom. Worst part: this seems almost intentional, with the bar area and the reserved-seating booths having sound absorbing drop-tile ceilings so that normal conversations could be had - meanwhile the hard ceiling above the main dining area reflects all sound back downwards. I have been outside at airports and it was easier to hear what people were saying. It affects the service, as our server did not hear all of our order. If they add some more sound absorbing tiles I would give them 4.5 stars. Oh, and we were there on a Wednesday - a slow night compared to the weekend rush. I will order takeout or reserve a booth if I ever return, but it was so loud as to be...

I see so many great reviews which is kind of sad because it makes me wonder if it was an off day, but I had to come here to say that the sushi I got here yesterday was disgusting. One of the three rolls was tolerable which i believe was the Godzilla, one which I believe was the Volcan roll had a lot of stuff on it but just tasted like straight up fish and nothing else (yes, I understand it's sushi but I've never had sushi that tasted like THAT), and the last one was supposed to be a Sunday Morning but it was honestly absolutely VILE.... On my check it said Dynamite Roll instead of Sunday morning so I'm not even sure what the roll really was but it did seem to be deep fried with cream cheese and salmon. It wasn't worth bringing up because our poor waitress was fighting for her life trying to understand us. She was very sweet and was doing her best but I'd imagine it was just as stressful for her as it was for us.

Perhaps the rest of your food is good and I'm willing to give it a shot eventually since my friends are so obsessed with this place... But my food last night was so bad, I'll not be trying the...

Absolutely terrible!!! No option on here for a negative star so unfortunately I give it a one -- which is too high. Our waitress was higher than a kite. Completely and totally gone, tripping out, whatever you wanna call it. Spoke to another waiter who said they’ve known about it for a while and management does nothing. Asked him for the manager and when she came over she admitted she has known for a while. They don’t do anything. I specifically said it made us uncomfortable and that she needed to stay in the back. Very unprofessional and unsettling to be served by someone completely strung out. Dinner continues and she keeps coming back to our table. The manager said we would just be served by someone else but she just kept coming back. At this point we call the manager back over and specifically asked her if she was allowing this to go on and she said yes. So to wrap up....highly unprofessional manager and strung out waitress with “eh” food. Portions are small - at least for the California roll. Teriyaki beef was ok but nothing to write home about.
