I have a lot of memories of Mt. Lookout Tavern from college, but none of them are centered around a dining experience. Back then it didn't seem like a good place to grab a bite, but the reinvented MLT has surprised me by offering really good bar food.
The inside has changed a lot since those college days. There are more tables that I remember, though it does seem like the tables can now be moved out of the way for the late night bar scene. The bathrooms could use some work though, as those don't seem to be have been updated yet.
For lunch I went with the Chicken Philly with sauteed banana peppers, onions, and mushrooms topped with melted provolone and mayo on a hoagie roll ($9.49). I was really surprised by the good quality of this sandwich, and it was very filling. I also had added a side of freshly prepared onion rings for $3.
There is no kids menu to speak of, but our little ones were happy ordering from the appetizer menu. Two of their favorite items are at the top of the list, hot pretzel bites with MLT bier cheese ($6.49) and mini corn dogs with honey mustard ($5.99). Both were large servings and the kids had no complaints.
My wife ordered a build your own quesadilla ($5.49 to start, veggie fillings $.50 each, meat $1.99 each). Nothing out of the ordinary here, but again another solid option for a decent price.
On another visit I thoroughly enjoyed the buffalo chicken wrap ($8.99) and the loaded nachos that were enough for an entire family ($7.99, $2 to add chicken). MLT has been added to our neighborhood rotation of restaurants for a solid...
Read moreListen I'm only writing this review becuase I think it is criminal how bad the nachos are here... Let me explain: Me and my boys pulled up for a friday night pint and a quick burger. I will say their smash burger was an absolute smash and i would come back for that any day of the week. The nachos, however, were a completely different story. Tortilla chips, shredded cheese, a ton of lettuce, and $0.50 each for bananna peppers, olives, and idek what else I paid for, and some dry ground beef for like $2 extra . All ice cold, cheese not even pretended to be melted. It was horrendous, and these nachos were like $16 when it came down with all the extras. I know its a bar for the most part but its like you didn't have to put this on your menu if you clearly don't care about it whatso ever. The smash burger, for example, someone clearly cared about and made sure it came out tasty and sufficient enough to push my blood-alchohol content back into a drivable state. These nachos... these nachos are driving me crazy man. So unbelievably lazy and unappetizing, and I am literally obese. Like I will be happy with anything as long as it comes out luke-warm! I was so miffed I didn't even take a picture either, so I'm sorry I just have to paint the picture for you. Come for burger and beer, if you're in need of nachos run the other way!
On a side note: that bathroom was horrendous too it smelled like the elephant exhibit...
Read moreI like to experiment with restaurants and pubs with a good menu. I happened to be on this side of town do to a meeting and I thought I would try something different. I walked into the place and sat down. The first thing I saw was dusty chairs with cotton coming out of them. The service was not good. Our server was nice but spent most of her time with the bar regulars who were having a good time. The order was placed quickly after sitting down, but it took over 40 minutes without there being much business. The server didn't budge more than two feet to check on the order to see if it was done. She was more engaged in pouring shots for the bar regulars then paying attention to the order.I felt like I was on an episode of bar rescue. The order finally came, and I was missing onion rings and not fries from my order. My other family member ordered fish and chips and got the fish sandwich instead. Luckily my meal that was a barbeque burger, onion rings when they came , and southwest egg rolls were all excellant when they finally came to the table. This was the only saving grace for the...
