Applebee's Grill + Bar — Restaurant in Citrus Heights

This place is usually hit or miss on the service but I went for my birthday on Tues night and that will be the last time. It wasn't really that busy, few table and few at the bar. My friend and I sat at one of the high top seats. When our waitress took our order I had ordered an alcoholic drink. She brought our appetizers out, still no drink. She disappears to the back. Eventually she brings my drink. Shortly after she brings our food. I had ordered a steak, well done. The steak I got, still bleeding. Of course the waitress was no where to be found but when she eventually comes out of the back we flag her down and tell her. She takes it back and says she'll bring a new one. Meanwhile my friend has their food. It took like 30 min for them to bring my food back out. It took so long I asked can she just put it in a to go box and bring some for my friends food, and I also asked for some ranch to go. She brought my to go food, the boxes for my friend, and a small container for me to put the ranch that's been sitting on the table for at least 45 min by now in. On my bill there was 2 comp charges for my food but the amount was still the same so I asked her what it was and she said it was how they keep track of the mess up food. Then I told her that I was unhappy with the service and that if I wanted my food to go I would have ordered it to go and she acted like she didn't give one single **. We paid cash and she asked if we needed change and when we pulled out the exact change she got an attitude, like she deserved something. I told my friend we needed to just go because I was kind of irritated at that point. I didn't even finish my drink 🙄. Then I called to talk to the manager to tell them about the experience and he said that I should have said something to the manager when it happened and they could have taken care of. Even though I told him not only was it horrible service, horrible food (I didn't even eat the food I took it home and set it on the table then threw it away), but it was my birthday dinner and one of the only nights I didn't have my kids, and he just kept saying I should have said something to the manager then. Upon arrival my family and I were seated promptly. After approximately 4 minutes of waiting with no greet from a server, my family and i started to stare at other servers standing around in a group. After approximately 10 minutes, Brittany acknowledged our presence. Brittany came over, greeted us and took our order. From my perspective there appeared to be a lack of "floor" control. For several minutes I viewed other servers hanging out in a group while Brittany was attending to her tables and we were the extra table she was given without notice. When our first round of drinks were brought to the table by Shawn, I'm not sure how his name was spelt, he spilt one of the drinks directly onto my wife. The spill was not minor and resulted in my wife leaving to the restroom to clean up. The apology provided did not seem sincere and with no resolve aside from a stack of napkins. From the view of my family the drinks were not handled securely resulting in the spill when asking which drink went where. The food arrived promptly and Brittany did a good job of tending to our needs and requests. A manager did not approach us regarding the service wait, or the spill which leads me to believe the spill was not reported and was attempted to be hidden, and the time frame we waited was not addressed either because lack of management or careless servers. Many things affect service and there could have been a small issue causing the degredation of service altogether. If there was a issue that occurred it was not managed promptly to ensure guests through the rest of the night would not be affected. We came here to pick up dinner on our way home from a hectic long day. We aimed to not spend a lot this night. We looked at the specials and deals on our app while we were in the parking lot. They had a special this day that we got so much food and a cocktail to go for about $10 each. We upgraded or added custom changes to the main dish, upgraded side dish and upgraded drink to a margarita. I think we both had spent $12 each! Lately any time we go to get take out even at fast food it is at least $30 easy and that’s usually with us leaving something out that we really want. So to get a meal that was so delicious and a cocktail for $24 (for 2 that was the total) we were shocked and couldn’t even finish the entire meal! Upon going inside to get the order a whole 8 minute later we were greeted with nice happy staff, the meal was just finishing up, I was in and out with dinner and our drinks in 10 min after we ordered from our car!) the restaurant was clean and looked like a nice place. I saw the wheel chair accessible ramps and the parking was large space and free. Restaurant stood alone (not attached to any other buildings and very easy to find. It didn’t seem like a place that riff-raff would hang out at. I didn’t see anything around to be worried about theft or danger. So good location and safe) and for take out junkies- the restaurant has a dedicated area for pick up and ordering to go! Nice!) It was great! Thank you. Oh and the order was 100% exactly how we ordered it and it was great to be able to make as many changes, additions, and customize our meal to our liking! Super happy with the app...
