Before I would have given this place 5 stars, but what happened to me when I decided to have my birthday here with a few friends was unbelievable. I called ahead and let them know I'd have 10 or so people to make sure they would be fine handling it. Guy I spoke with said it wouldn't be a issue at all.
Party and I get there and get seated. Chatting and joking I don't notice that it had been close to 20 minutes and we hadn't even seen our waitress. After about 5 or so more minutes we flag down another waitress to find out who's taking care of us. Finally our waitress shows up, we ask for some waters as well as other beverages and she disappears. After about 15 or so minutes she brought our drinks out to us. Short a couple waters and walks away without giving any of the kids straws. Had to call her back before she disappeared again. After about 10 minutes my company is all getting annoyed from the service, or lack there of. I told them it was probably because they were busy, they're always great here. Well after flagging her down yet again to ask about the waters we still hadn't gotten, we placed our orders for appetizers. After just about an hour we were finally able to order some food. Made the mistake of not ordering everything at once though. So after appetizers were out it was a good bit of time before we could snag her again to take our order.
Now if they were swamped and everyone was behind that'd be one thing. But I watched as people who were seated well after us, served by different staff, were getting the great service this place normally has. We just seemed to be in the death void for service.
When sushi finally did come out instead of it being separated like we asked for each section of the table they put it all on one plate for half the table, and a couple rolls were served until about 15 minutes after we got ours. There was no room on table due to the plates from the appetizers still sitting there. Instead of moving them the waitress attempted to just wedge it in where she could. So I took it upon myself to clean up all the dishes and put them together on the table behind us. While our waitress again just disappeared. Since we weren't brought out any plates or utensils, I asked the guy doing the take out orders for some since we weren't getting them even after asking out waitress.
Food of course was great as always. Never could get refills on our waters. And decided to just end the night early since the service had been so terrible. After asking to speak to the manager, we were told he had just left and was unavailable. Very convenient since at this point everyone was noticeably irritated. If at any point she had came to us and provided the standard customer service that you give to a customer, then it wouldn't have been a big deal. Just say hey I'm really behind on things if you need anything just flag me down. See very easy. I've worked in the food industry a bit and understand how tough it can be when swamped or when things were taken care of properly. But you still give your customers the best you can. This was not even close, for the first time ever I told everyone in my party to not leave a tip. You have to at least try if you want that. Even the manager could have smoothed things over quickly by just giving some customer service rather then hide...
Read moreWe went there yesterday (Saturday). It took a few minutes to have them seat us(they didn'teven acknowledge us or say welcome). Only 1 sushi chef...other was on break and 2 waitreses. Then they left us with menus and it took a really long time. She brought waters and didn't have any straws. Then another table of people sat themselves and the waitress gave attitude that they asked for menus. They said they waited for over 10 minutes and decided to seat themselves. We finally ordered and we ordered 7 rolls and a childs plate and some nigri. It took over 30 minutes for the childs plate to come out....then another 20 minutes after for our rolls (all came out at once). They don't even give you edemame beans to munch on while waiting. I don't understand why they couldn't send out at least 1 or 2 rolls for us to start on. They totally ignored us and made us feel bad the other table hated their treatement too. We frequent Blue Nami and will continue to make that drive to Orangevale or Roseville. Tried to stay local and support CH...but the food wasn't great and the service was horrible! One of the rolls came with onions on top and they were so charred and burnt it was disgusting. Another roll was almost all rice. Hope they hire more people or change their attitudes or word...

I have ordered from this Haya Sushi restaurant on the regular basis for the last few years, and now I tell you It is very sad to see that Haya Sushi restaurant degraded in service and quality of food. Recently I ordered my usual order, and order was short and sushi rolls were badly made . I asked nicely the front desk to fix the order, and she immediately start yelling that its my fault, seeing that its not going anywhere In hope of resolving the issue I asked for the manager. When manager picked up the phone- with all my hope to humanity I have explain the manager that this is my usual order and I would like to get it fixed-boy I was wrong, He yelled to me with the same speed and tone as his reception. (felt like they where yelling to each other before he picked up the phone) In the normal restaurant this issue would be easily fixed with a nice gesture but don’t expect that at Haya Sushi. So If you don’t want your order to be short and badly made, my strong recommendation: “Stay away from Haya...
