Tried this place out today and ordered a Togo meal. Staff were inviting and welcoming when I entered, asked what I wanted, input my order into the system (one single item) rang me up and told me it will be about 15 minutes. I was given a receipt to sign, which they didn’t take back from me until they gave me my order (this will be relevant later in the review) anyways, that is all of the interaction I had with them. (Totally fine, I waited patiently by the register for my food to be finished) took about 20-25 minutes for my order to be brought up. Not a huge deal, they had some sit down customers come in during that time so they got a little busy. Cool…well, this is when my okay visit turned into an awkward and puzzling experience. When the cashier handed me my food, she took my receipt. I left a $2 tip (personally don’t feel it’s necessary at all to tip on a takeout order. I am not being waited on, you plugged in my order on a computer and handed me the food) however I did anyways because, well just because. But check this out, when the waitress looked at the receipt her face totally changed. She turns around and says “wow” in a snarky tone. She shook her head and just sat there for a second, maybe hoping I would dish out more money for her tireless efforts pressing 3 buttons on the computer and grabbing the Togo bag to hand to me. I honestly wanted to scribble out the tip, and replace it with a verbal one..but whatever, I know where I won’t be visiting again. The food? Eh, it was okay…edible, nothing I can’t find taking a left or right out of the plaza they are located in and driving...
Read moreI've had a lot of raw fish in Tampa, but today I had sushi.
I don't know that I can consider myself a connoisseur of sushi restaurants, but I can say that Yoshi Sushi delivered the most beautiful, flavorful, balanced, and expertly made sushi I have had the chance to eat every in my life. Applause to the chef for his outstanding work.
5 different fishes for my order included eel, whitefish, yellowtail, tuna, and salmon. The 2 pieces of eel were perfectly charred with a magnificent savory sauce. I almost stopped eating there because I felt like I had eaten dessert. The whitefish was mild, and the yellowtail was full of texture. The tuna was clean and simple. My favorite, the salmon, was truly indulgent. Fatty and delicious, it was a perfect finishing piece......
Or so I thought! Because then I had a Philidelphia roll. I was taken in by the addition of the asparagus and the fact that the chef chooses to top the roll with the salmon, as opposed to inside. Both are excellent choices that took my favorite guilty-pleasure roll over the top. And again, expertly made. I had to marvel at the fact I couldn't even see the knife cuts through the roll.
Nestled in a simple shopping plaza, you would never realize what is behind those dark tinted doors. A beautiful and authentic feel to the aesthetic, wonderful service and immaculately cleaned, Yoshi Sushi just became my go...
Read moreIt used to be a nice neighborhood sushi spot that is located in the strip center across from Sickles High on Gunn Hwy. The Sushi Chef no longer deals out quality dishes. They have been replaced by mediocre similies of the real thing.
Our last 3 visits have been hugely disappointing. Tiny, miniscule rolls that no longer taste good. The lunch special to-go orders are especially small and taste terrible now. Is it the stingyness or the poor quality, hard to tell. I will no longer be a customer. Below is what it used to be.
We loved our rolls and the starter, a crunchy Tempura Shrimp. The star of our quick lunch was the Dragon Ball Roll. An eye pleasing layout with a very nice combination of flavors. Every roll 5 so far has been unique and delicious. The Salmon Belly sashimi was melt in your mouth delectable. They have some very reasonable lunch specials.
The menu offers a large variety of items including some Korean dishes. Avoid to-go orders, they are pretty bad. Food is much better when you dine in. Last, if the rolls get any smaller or thinner, instead of a boat they could use...
