Mash More — Restaurant in City of Albany

DETAILED REVIEW: I walked in and the door is very close to the drive thru exit and I think it can become an issue especially if it’s a busy day . Upon walking in I was politely greeted by a young lady and she had the best personality ! Very upbeat and respectful. Then she suggested items for me to try which were popular and that made me feel comfortable. I ordered and noticed that my food was being made fresh , which I loved . When my order was done a nice young man brought my food to me and I was given a Cole slaw to try . I had absolutely the best experience. The portion sizes were perfect . I got the pulled pork mashed potato bowl and the beef sauce loaded fries . My only things to “complain” about was the fact that the mashed potatoes did seem like they came from a box and weren’t freshly made from potatoes . I will say, I was thinking this place would be more so a toppings style place where you have options to add to your mashed potato bowl but it’s not that . Overall this was a nice place and I’ll be back in the future . I just wish the mashed potatoes weren’t boxed !! Ughh The prices are great for the portion size especially in this economy.

UPDATE : I recently visited again with my husband and the food was much better. I love how they read the reviews and fixed the issues . The mash potatoes didn’t give “instant “ , as they now had texture to them . If you look at the first picture I took to the updated one you can even see the difference . Will be back !! First and foremost the staff that I interacted with were absolutely incredibly pleasant (five stars). The menu was easy enough to order off of but with every picture being AI generated on their website and in store it was hard to know what we would get. Even the "about us" section seemed to have been completely written by AI through a "create me a mission statement" type prompt.

The real miss was the grilled chicken sandwich. I was cautiously optimistic about it however when I took my first bite the chicken was cold, slimy, chewy, and very pink. It is possible that the pink was from smoking but with how cold, slimy, and chewy it was, I didn't want to chance it.

The spicy chicken fries and bacon and cheese fries were ok. The fries were missing seasoning and the toppings could not make up for it.

I think there is a lot of potential here to get a store like this right. I also acknowledge that based on the other reviews the consensus seems to be that they're still finding their groove. While I also appreciate that the owner seems to comment on each review, I can't help notice that every response seems to be AI generated. I do hope that Nico is genuinely looking at these reviews and integrating the feedback from the community instead of copy and pasting our reviews into chatGPT asking it to respond.

I’ll start by saying the food was good, prices are good, the staff are great, and the restaurant itself was nice and clean.

The issue I have is the mashed potatoes read as instant to me, which given the restaurant being a mashed potato restaurant seems like a fumble. I enjoyed what I got and at any other restaurant I would be happy to pay what I did for what I got. I expected a restaurant’s primary concept would be the part they executed the most but it was easily the worst part of the meal I got. That said they are still mashed potatoes, instant or otherwise so to say they were serviceable.

For food I got the herbed chicken bowl and the wings. The herbed chicken great; was tender and flavorful, the gravy was decent (also seemed instant, but still good) and the mashed potatoes were… instant. The wings were crispy and juicy but in my opinion the breading could’ve been seasoned a little more but they serve as a great vehicle for the dipping sauces like the ranch I got so this is just a preference thing for me.

All in all I will probably visit gain but I’ll probably get the fries or a baked potato next time since those are made with...
