My wife and I were recently traveling through New York state. We stopped in Amsterdam, NY and had dinner at Shorty’s on Broad St. The total for the meal was $31.86. I wrote in $2. as the tip amount and wrote in $33.86 as the Total amount. I also left two $1 bills on the table, for a tip total of more than 12%. A couple of weeks after returning home, we received our credit card statement. It showed the total charge for our meal at Shorty’s as $43.86 rather than the $33.86. I still have the receipt. I immediately called our credit card company to initiate a dispute over the $10 overcharge as it was fraud. I then called Shorty’s and spoke to the husband co-owner to tell him what had happened. He said he would “look into it.” I gave him our phone number and he offered no apology. The next day we received a voice mail from the wife co-owner. She said that they had the merchant copy of my receipt and that I had left a $12 tip and initialed the receipt! I called them right back and spoke to her. I told her that I did not leave a $12 tip, nor had I initialed the receipt! I told her that I still had the receipt and gave her my email so that she could send me a photo of what she showed as the receipt. I received a photo of the receipt. The server “R…..a” had altered my receipt by writing in a “1” in front of my “2” as the tip. She wrote in a “4” over my “3” in the $33.86 as the Total amount to make it $43.86. She also forged my initials next to the Total amount and circled it! I immediately called Shorty’s and spoke to the wife co-owner. I told her that this was fraud on our credit card, that I had disputed the over-charge and that their employee should be fired on the spot! She offered no apology. I then faxed a copy of my receipt and also the photo of the altered/forged receipt from Shorty’s to our credit card company. A week or so later, we received a $10 bill in the mail from Shorty’s with no apology note. In fact, at every opportunity with Shorty’s, with both co-owners, there was never any apology of any kind for the fraud that their employee did to us! Our credit card company has subsequently determined that there was indeed fraud on our credit card, a crime in the state of New York. I think that if you dine at Shorty’s in Amsterdam, NY and use your credit card, you should know that if that employee still works there, you may be...

Holy moly what a significant occasion this was. I've been trying for the last couple years to come here, only to learn this year that the reason I could never get anyone on the line was because they were renovating the place! I mean, I even walked by here many many times, and I never knew they were shut down.
But finally, I have been to Shorty's and I got the house special, a spicy vodka cream sauce over Paccheri; adding on the blackened chicken. It comes with a choice of side, I went with a simple salad, but I also place an order of the onion petals as well. I made the trip even more memorable by walking over instead of driving, a roughly 4 and a half mile round trip. Nice they have a window for take out, as I was a little bit sweaty from the heat wave, and didn't want to bother anyone with that fact at the time.
Back home I opened everything up to be blown away by just the sheer amount of pasta I got, I mean, I could tell the bag was heavy, but this was family sized for sure. On top of the quantity, it was also a mind blowing experience, as I say that this was the best darn Vodka sauce I have ever had; ever. It was creamy, had some good heat, cheese flavor that knocked me flat, with a tomato-y helping hand to pick me back up. And the blackened chicken just went hand in hand, a perfect pairing. The onion petals were nothing to scoff at either, good breading, nicely fried, and a delicious ranch dip to accompany them. And all for just a little over $37, I'd happily pay that just for the pasta alone!
I could absolutely see myself coming back agin for another round, but for now, I think I'll see myself off to a food coma from all that pasta. Oh...
Read moreWe ordered loaded nacho as a appetizer, 2 pasta rigatoni’s and 2 soups.
Pasta and soup came at the same time. I wish we could eat soup in 5 minutes and you would bring the pasta but it’s okay.
Appetizer came like 20-30 minutes later then pasta because I asked them where is the appetizer.
They told me it was a computer mistake. I guess the employees in the kitchen didn't see the order. That's okay too. I said to the waiter, I was planning to eat these nachos before the pasta, I'm full and now you say the nachos are coming. Would you cancel? He said no, it's done now, sorry. I had to buy a nacho that was going to be garbage as a to go. I lost money and wasted food for nothing. Unfortunately, nachos that have been waiting are not a dish that can be eaten again.
The food was delicious, but I don't have to pay for your mistake because as a former chef, I say you cannot bring the appetizer 25 minutes after the main food with apologizing. It's your fault. And even though I wanted to cancel it, the kitchen staff could have eaten it instead of bringing it to the table and I wouldn't have paid money and thrown away food for no reason. Thanks.
In conclusion, my experience: The food is delicious, the service is wrong (this would not be a comment if you didn't punish me for your mistake), and I don't want to go without saying, the place smells bad, I don't understand...
